Bennett explains why he axed Vidot

Bennett told the Jets at the session last Saturday they'd have Vidot; Ben and Shane told him they'd play him at prop and he laughed.

I like Vidot, he seems like a cool dude and took his axing really well..

Can't help but think that 110kg is still way too fucking big for a winger, he needs to lose 5 MORE kilos and work on his ball handling and finishing, then he's welcome back in the team.

This is crazy when you consider that he put Whitchurch, Reed and Gavet in the team who seems to drop the ball at least 2 times every time they play a game. I think you guys can scrap Vidot off your team lists already.

I don't recall Gavet being so clumsy with his hands. Maybe his aggression caused him to give away penalties but without the stats on hand I thought he was pretty safe. If you're going to use that argument you'd have to throw Copley in that mix too. And Hodges if we're being honest. There goes most if our options at centre. It's no surprise Bennett is starting the season somewhat experimentally.

I think Bennett is a fan of Vidot, but he want's to take him to the next level. In order to do that, you have to cut out his weaknesses, something Bennett has outlined as being his errors in crucial stages. I think Bennett's tough love will work a treat.

He certainly has attacking ability, but I think it sort of gets masked by his willingness to do the hard yards, so we don't really see him at his attacking best. Vidot's speed has definitely been impacted by his weight, and its great to see that Vidot had recognised that himself and wanted to change that since early last season.

He has the physical attributes of a good winger. Big, strong, and tall, but if he can just get that little bit more leaner and faster, he'll be even better. I see his ideal weight at about ~100kg. Still strong, but faster. Above all is his great attitude and team first mentality which impresses me the most.

On a side note, its good to hear Eden doing well.

Gavet was quite good with his hands at the Tigers. Maybe the nerves affected him. Overlooking his dropped balls, he made some really strong runs and bent the line with each carry. He definitely ran harder than what Kennedy ever did. I liked what I saw, and his aggression was refreshing. Sadly all his good work was undone by his errors, which can be fixed. The positive thing is its something that he can cut out and he'll be awesome for us off the bench.

There has been a huge amount of errors this first week of footy. Only 1 team above 80% completion, and it's Manly, the team that got smashed. Roosters completion rate was 59%!

We noticed it on our players since we watch them more closely, but it's been happening everywhere.

Lol at people saying that one of our best players of 2014, probably second behind hunt, needed a "rocket up him". Vidot was excellent last year, lost 5kg to try and get some speed back, and gets dropped for making a mistake when at least 3 other players kept their spots when they consistently make more and worse mistakes. It doesn't add up.

He was doing the forwards job though. As a winger he wasn't good. And being our second best player last year doesn't mean much at all.

Some of our best wingers of all time made their name by doing a forwards job. That work is invaluable to a teams fo forward and field position, especially off kick returns. It gives the forwards a break too.

He made more metres than most 1st choice props did last year iirc.

Every one of our players needs to improve in some way. IMO with our overload of wingers, with none of them being certainties for a spot, Vidot was the easiest fix.

Yeah but our best wingers of all time also did the jobs that wingers were supposed to do as well.

Vidot's attitude prior to being dropped was great, but he was sent to ISC nonetheless after a mistake in England, leaving Whitchurch and a few other in the team...
It may be psychological tactics, but if I was Vidot, I would be filthy to be dropped like that after doing all the work Wayne asked me to do, while others get a free ride. I hope it works...

He can be filthy all he likes. But he better not let his coach get wind of it. If Vidot gets back in the side, it's because he proved he wanted to be in it.

Vidot was good last year, but he could be so much more. So if this means he pushes that extra bit and becomes a better player, then good.

2 dropped balls from Gavet on Thursday night champ. I just get the feeling Vidot will have rubbed Bennett up the wrong way and will be struggling to make it in the top side because of it.

Think of it this way - Vidot is one that Bennett has earmarked to have a future at the club, but needed a bit of a rocket. While that happens, he's thrown in to the NRL side a few people that are on their last chances, to confirm finally whether they would sink or swim when the pressure is turned up.
That may very well be the case, and I don't know what conversation Wayne had with Daniel, but I can't imagine he told him that, as that would pretty much defeat the purpose.

So we have a guy that has been doing everything you ask of him, getting dropped for one mistake (which was partly due to compensating for Hodges being out of position himself), while others, who were much worse, are given another chance... those are the optics, and while Vidot appears to have taken it very well, it must feel pretty unfair.

Those wingers were also excellent in attack which Vidot is not

I hope Vidot never makes it back into a Broncos jersey but I sure as hell hope we have better wingers than Maranta, Reed and Copley next season. I am happy to have Copley at centre but Maranta and Reed need to be depth players only, not automatic selections

Yeah, I got that. I just mean that before the Souths game it wasn't a Gavet staple. Like Thaiday's penalties.
