Heard on the radio that Dean Benton and Mick DeVere will be joining the coaching staff for next season..

Excellent news if true!

Broncos have called a press conference for 11.30am today. Certainly announcing something!

If Dean Benton is coming back that is brilliant!

Wouldn't surprise me if he has a few roles. Goalkicking coach, backline defensive coach including how to defend kicks...wonder if his tae kwon do or karate will come in handy too, the disciplinary sides of it at least.

Benton has the runs on the board, so to speak, so this is fantastic news. Very glad to see him back.

i thought that devere was already apart of the team somehow as he was there at the fan day. but great news to have another loyal bronc in the staff.

Great News i hope that Benton is coming back... why did he leave in the first place?

Here's the press release. Nothing about Mick De Vere.

Broncos Assemble New Look Off-field Staff

THE WOW Brisbane Broncos have assembled a crack staff to support new head coach Ivan Henjak from the 2009 season onwards.

In a collection of rugby league minds that will balance the club’s culture with the cutting edge of modern sport, former Bronco greats and sports professionals of the highest order have been secured.

Dean Benton, who revolutionised the way the Broncos trained as he oversaw the team’s athletic endeavours during the club’s march to the 2006 premiership, will return to Brisbane as Performance Director.

Benton rejoins the Broncos after a stint with English rugby union club Leceister.

Backing up Benton’s expertise will be Andrew Croll and the already full-time strength coach Dan Baker and sports scientist Tim Gabbett.

Croll becomes the Athletic Performance Coach after excelling in his role as the Broncos’ elite player development strength and conditioning coach.

In a new structure, a host of brilliant former rugby league players will be Henjak’s right-hand men.

Allan Langer, Shane Webcke, Paul Green and Peter Ryan will all become full-time assistant coaches in specialist roles.

All four have played for the club and have held pivotal roles on the Broncos’ staff in recent years.

Broncos’ chief executive Bruno Cullen said he was looking forward to the new staff beginning their work in November.

“We are very pleased with the team we have put together,†he said.

“The club has been working on this for the past few weeks with the help of our new head coach Ivan Henjak.

“I am very confident we have assembled a highly-credentiled team to take us forward into a new period for the Broncos.â€Â

Though De Vere was already doing goalkicking work with the club?

Regardless, he's an asset in any role & it's tops to see Benton back imo.

Great news all round.

Chief is coming back to handle the staple gun for medical staff as well I heard [icon_wink

Im not really sure how all the coaching works behind the scenes, so does anyone know how many assisants and specialist coaches are involved with an nrl team??

It just seems like we have an awful lot of assistants/ specialists for next year. Webcke, Langer, Benton, De vere, ryan and green.

Is this a normal number??

winnie: there is no "normal" number. Teams can have as many/few coaching staff as they like.

I understand theres no normal number but i would be concerned if we had too many assistants/ specialists!!

I kinda wanted to know how many other teams had!! Cause i just think if we have to many assistants it can end up being a little counter productive! You have different people telling u different things. Im sure they know what there doing but it does seem like quite a large number!!

As they say "too many cooks spoil the broth"

Excellent news to me haha Obviously Benton and Bennet had a run in when Benton left.. Great news for the club now all we need to do is sign up Hannant and Ennis and we are looking the goods.

Awesome news. In 2006 we had Henjak, Benton, Ryan and Green in our coaching staff and we won a Premiership, so it's good to see at least those guys retained in whatever role. The added bonuses of Webcke, Langer and De Vere will do no harm at all either IMO.

Yeah, looking good for next season I reckon. Lets just hope we sign our off contract players!

Here's the Broncos coaching roster for next year;

Head Coach - Henjak
Assistant coach - Langer, Webcke, Green, Ryan (all fulltime)
Performance Director - Dean Benton with Andrew Croll
Strength coach - Dan Baker
Sports scientist - Tim Gabbett
Fulltime advisors - Michael De Vere

I was reading that the coaching staff at the Broncos next year could number as high as 20... that seems a bit high to me eusa_think
