Best NRL Halves

If it's for a club side, Foran/Cherry-Evans.

Rep, Thurston/Cronk.

I see a lot of people shooting their load prematurely about Tomkins, but I suspect they will be bitterly disappointed...
Can kick goals, can kick in general play, has a good pass on him, knows when to pass the ball and has a great running style. Whether he's worth a million is another thing, but he's a great player and I can't wait to see him go. Could potentially be a great fullback in the game once he gets used to the NRL weekly grind.

The way the poms have talked up Tomkins, I'm hoping he becomes a stain on a rampaging forward's jersey.

Put me at the top of that list. Had a good look at Tomkins last year.
He was pretty much unplayable in 2012......had an injury interupted season in 2013 , that's the biggest worry , he wasn't running all the time last year unlike when he is at his most dangerous.

I don't want to derail a half back stand off thread , however the relevance of Tomkins is he is a Stand off playing Fullback ( the reverse of that should ring some bells D.L.).

Tomkins and Johnson qualify for this discussion because Tomkins was Wigans main play maker on attack. That's what sides will have trouble with , really its an extra half and one that plays from where there is space.

The main reasons the Poms Circle Jerk over S.T. is that his unusually skinny frame and odd running style make him somewhat reminiscent of David Peachy imho....a hard guy to get a good shot on.

Then there is the vision and ball playing which dare I say it looks a lot like Lockyer in the three quarter line.

If you look at the outside backs the Warriors play , and the way they get by on very poor ball service , having someone like that in there is probably why they paid the estimated Aus $ 680 K ( cheap as chips over three years ).

Most clubs baulked at the Million pounds the Wigan Warriors wanted in early release transfer fees.

Since one of the Warriors owners has a Golf course in the Grounds of his house and the other partner has a house in Monaco......I don't think they batted an eyelid at that.

The thing is... that he looked really good against the lower half of the ESL teams, but wasn't that special against the top half of the teams, who didn't give him acres of space to play in.

I am sure he will take advantage of broken play and space, but he won't get nearly as much in the NRL as he did in the ESL, and sorry Mt. Smart, I generally appreciate your posts and discussion quality, but similar to Locky? That one made me laugh! He does not have the vision, passing or kicking game to remotely resemble the best RL player ever!
Maybe that's me just being defensive of a player I still mourn no longer seeing wearing the glorious Broncos jersey...

Remember Brett Hodgson? I reckon Tomkins is on par with him at most. I think we'll see Sam receive the "Raging Bull" trade mark treatment of little fullbacks full of themselves, and I see many goal line kicking in the Warriors future... :spy:

Lockyer is God. Was aware that would stir the pot a bit.

The comparison was restricted to the playing at the three quarter line ( the type of drawing and passing Brett Tate profited from ).

Tomkins has equally good sense of cut out pass selection and flat passing from what I've watched , he is pretty lethal out wide and he will be selecting Hurell or Fisiahi or Vatuvei , that will be effective for the Warriors.

Otherwise you can't compare the rest of it , ones playing stand off with the best possible backs available and the other as you say is from an inconsistent competition. One player is the best player in the world in his position.....the other is one of the better ones. Non Contest Lockyer V Tomkins.

Sure the Key in Super league was the Good teams shut Tomkins down. Wigan fans will tell you that lots of their other players score because of that.

I really don't think Tomkins is going to struggle, particularly considering the team he is. The Warriors are one of the biggest teams in the comp and their pack as well as the style of footy they play will give him more space and time than most teams. Plus having SK in the team is such a bonus. The things he can do will no doubt help Tomkins tremendously. How could you possibly focus on Tomkins in support if you have SJ running the ball.

I expect big things, and quite fancy Hurrell to come close to top try-scorer this year in part because of Tomkins play down the right side.

I hope Tomkins kills it. In fact I hope he is leading try scorer.

It's always great to have more stars in the game. You can never have enough, it just increases interest and in the end that equals more sponsorships, more dollars to players and keeping our best players.

I want Tomkins to gun it too. Yeah, I am a Broncos fan, but I'm also a Rugby League fan, and I want to watch exciting quality players play (I even loved watching Benji Marshall in his prime) and the competition standards to rise.

Why if I may ask?

I have nothing against the Warriors, in fact I normally like their ad-lib footy, but I really don't like the little chav...

Because he is in my SVRL team of course.
