Jesse Arthars coming second with 24 votes (77.4%), and Deine Mariner coming third with 17 votes (54.8%).

Leaderboard graphic coming soon.

I have been thinking about changing the scoring this year to what the NRL does. Instead of the tally being total votes, go with the 3-2-1 system instead. Felt like that provided a more accurate leaderboard when I did it for the fun of it at the end of last year.
Yep absolutely.
Let's put it to a vote..

I agree, I like 3-2-1 and then I like to say blast off and then go ppppfffffsssshhhhhwwwwwaaaaaahhh with my mouth and start my hand down low and then make it go as high as I can....

I am 5 years old.

Yeah definitely, it will give a more accurate picture at the end even if numbers will definitely inflate.

I ran this experiment in various permutations at the insistence of @theshed a few years ago.

It made no significant difference. None. It was just more work.

The hurdle is at the collection layer, not the weekly tally.

If you want to go with a Dally M style, voters would need to rank the players or allocate points. You could say, ask to spread 10 points across the team. Or simply rank them in order. Any number of players.

Unfortunately, last time I looked the polling options don't include numerical input or ranking.

The current system probably gives the right outcome.

I like the approach that we have now to be honest.

It lets us see the form of other guys who are still picking up votes, but are unlikely to get into the top 3 at all through the year.

When you've got guys like Haas and Patty picking up votes basically every week and then other studs like Walsh, Reynolds, Bhunt, Cobbo, etc.

You're probably not ever going to see someone like Kobe feature in the 3,2,1 so he'll just sit there on zero points for the year... whereas in the current it'll at least show if he's been like a top 10 player for us over the year

Yes, that's the conclusion I reached. Being consistently in the top 3 means you're reliable, an MVP team man. Payne will win most seasons with that criteria, followed by Patty, while someone like Selwyn will bag top spot a few weeks, but unlikely to be a regular top 3. Same with Reyno and Reece.

Yeah which means we miss out on seeing how the other guys are tracking... like Willison, Kobe, Arthars, Paix, etc. they might finish the year on a point or so if they manage to beat out Payne, Patty and co... but they may have picked up 100 votes or so across the year.

The one thing that impressed me the most about Arthars against the Raiders was how willing he was to put his body on the line especially on kick returns, he showed absolute no fear in taking the ball up and facing the defensive line in a game where his team mates were getting absolutely dominated.

Then you look at Walsh, no confidence in his returns and he even gives an absolute shocker of a hospital pass to Jesse that puts him in immediate danger of the defence putting him into touch when Walsh was already safe.

There was no fear... except on that bomb he didn't compete on and tried to trap with his foot for some insane reason.
