I’ve got a great idea let’s run a bloke shit scared of the pressure from edge defenders through the middle at the big boppers.

Walsh is not that style of fullback. He is a small guy whose skills come to light in space. Stick him in the middle for the off chance an opportunity might come, where if it doesn’t he is predominantly ineffective with this positioning or put him on an edge where he should be. Look the edge admittedly is not working for him but it’s cause he isn’t having space created for him, there is a real lack of shape or intent for him to be at the back of fast and direct shape and he is shit scared of being hit. Can’t imagine he is gonna love roaming and running up the guts.
Paps is huge? Slater? a Monster? These guys tactically go through the middle of the park - yes, where the big boppers are. If you don't notice, Reece charges at forwards multiple times per game right now..... All fullbacks do.

His issue isn't running at forwards.... He rarely drops the ball on first or second carries out of our end... into those same forwards.

What I'm suggesting, is to have him sniffing around where Paix and Billy are looking for the loose ball to find a gap, just like Paps and Slater before him do/did.

We really need to talk about the starting forwards
Kobe can’t continue to start at lock
He offers absolutely nothing in the first 25 minutes
Put Patty at 13 with Jensen at 8 for the first bit of the game
I was at the game so couldn't see the telecast, but from what I could see Kobe was the only bloke out there cutting guys in half in defence.

I think we need that out of our starters, because Patty and Payne aren't hitting guys in defence at the moment, and Jensen sure as shit won't be either.

Maybe he wasn't making 10m a hit up, but he was at least trying to stop the yardage game when they ran anywhere near him.

I thought Patty's first sting was pretty ineffective tonight though... he was getting cut down pretty easily and I thought it was interesting that Madge decided to take him off and leave Payne on, which is the reverse to what's happened the first 2 games.

All criticism aside, I hope the group and the coaches get around Reece after that along with last week.

The difference this week is that he was putting the effort in but he still couldn't get it right.

We need a lot of fundamental training still. I don't care about being entertainers - winning is all that should matter in that regard
I noticed after the try straight after halftime, Bhunt went across to Walsh who was berating himself.

Arthars was walking away back to the ingoal, but it was good to see Bhunt go across, because Walsh was super solid in the first half under a lot of kicking pressure.

Kinda hoping Walsh gets suspended, he needs time off to work out what he is doing, Cobbo can do the job till then.

Agreed, we scored 26 points tonight and Walsh was responsible for 12 of them. That 40/20 completely turned momentum. It was such a big swing that it could be argued he contributed to 18 of our 26.

The fact he also fucked up about 5 times should detract from this. 2 of those 5 were from his teammates contributing as well.

Ps, I’m guessing the fuckup numbers.

More enjoyable summation than NRL 360.

Reece is fine. He's always been rocks and diamonds, but if you're going to pick on the rocks, we've got to point out the handful of diamonds, or we're just not being fair. There's always a couple of plays he does that just seem inevitable - so smooth there's no chance they're NOT coming off.

Happy with the 2 points but bloody hell what are we doing out there.

Walsh just not playing well. Our attack is all over the place. Lots of work to do moving forward.

Everyone sees the Diamonds (.except last week, he was a quarry)
The problem I have is, as you pointed out, he has always been rocks and diamonds. At what point does he improve and start to be a few more diamonds than rocks ? Isn't experience supposed to bring that.
23 was a good example lots of diamonds along with the rocks. Last year and this year more rocks than diamonds.

Unpopular opinion, I'd drop Mariner instead of Shibasaki for Staggs.
For mine provides better overall balance and not sure what it is but Mariner looks as though he's a mistake waiting to happen.
Gehmat just looks like a first grader
I think Deine was a better winger than Arthurs , I'd push Mariner out to the wing in that case. for mine Arthurs looks as though he's a mistake waiting to happen ,especially under the high ball.

Yeah it wasn't a great performance and there's a lot we need to work on to beat the likes of Storm and Panthers but it can take time to adjust to a new system.

As has been mentioned, this is a game we would have lost last year. Cowboys would have ran over the top of us in the second half. We showed character to come away with the win.

If we're a couple of months in and we're still performing like this, that's when I would be worried.

There's alot to digest from that 80 minutes of footy.

Gotta give it to them for being able to withstand 20 minutes of straight pressure and being bullied and then turn around and score two tries. Then basically have to win it again in the second half. Our fitness genuinly looks first class

However, thats now two weeks in a row where we've been bashed and forced to work off our own line for long periods of time and we've really struggled to swing momentum. Tonight it took a 40/20 which could have easily resulted in a 7 tackle set.

I'm really concerned about the metes getting out of trouble from the back 5. They get monstered so often and it means by tackle 3 we are having slow play the balls and generally still within our own 20. It puts us under so much pressure having to kick from deep in our own half every set and the opposition starting theirs from there 30. I'd kill to have a Corey Oates to kick start our sets.

You really have to wonder if these guys are ever going to learn to build pressure and be patient. Tonight was one of those games we absolutely should have drained their energy and ran away with it at the back end of the game. A decent team would have punished us so hard tonight for all our errors.

It's only early in the season and we'll take the win but plenty to work on. Things could be much different if we had a tough draw to start the year.

No way. I still have ptsd from Mariners drops. Arthur’s is undroppable at this stage.

It doesn't help when the ref let's the other side take the piss. Cows were up super fast and did plenty if work on the ground even when we won the ruck.

I think Staggs returning will help alot. Need more running threats (like when Reynolds dummied and ran), otherwise it's easy to target Reece, because it's all so predictable.

Same shit different toilet .
That move has been studied , and the counter practiced .
Run across field , use up the space , then throw the impossible pass .

Ground hog day .

I said last week another bad game or two and Selwyn is playing #1 .
Then Selwyn`s retention becomes another issue . Full back money ?

I’m not convinced Reece’s issues are because he is down on confidence. I genuinely think he is still trying far too hard.
He wants to score off every single play. Just hold the ball and get tackled. Stop pushing every ball. We dont need to score off every play ffs.
100% just get back to basics, please.

Stacey Jones said the same thing back when he was at the Wahs .
Kid doesn`t want to learn / change .

I don`t think Billy Salater blowing smoke up his arse hasn`t done him any good IMO .

And ,,, commentators rave about Walsh`s speed . He got burnt last night .
