BHQ's Best Ever Broncos Team - Hooker

The best ever hooker of all time for the Broncos is...

    39
Yes, that's wonderful mate. But he played hooker for about 8 weeks of that season. He wasn't what I'd call a specialist hooker, nor did he play there for as long as he played at centre or even halfback for the Broncos.

A jack of all trades, master of none.

How Shaun Berrigan got 5 votes on the back of 1 good half season at hooker I will never know.
Without him we would not of won the 2006 premiership.

We wouldn't have won it without Shane Perry either. Better change my vote in the halfback poll.

Still, he's my favorite hooker to play for the Broncos, I don't care if he wasn't the best :) I'm not old enough to remember Walters anyway.

Still, arguably the best utility that I've seen. Might not have mastered any one position, but one of the most versatile players the comp has ever seen IMO.

People would be insane if they don't pick him for the utility spot on the bench in this team IMO.

Oh absolutely mick. I'm just saying whenever he comes up for consideration in a starting spot there's numerous players who are well and truly ahead of him.

As a bench utility, his only rival would be John Plath, but Berrigan has him covered easily IMO.

He made rep teams as starting centre, hooker and halfback/5/8, am I missing anything else?
Only special players can play so well in totally different positions.

Bring back berrigan :(

Starting center, halfback and 5/8 yes, but halfback and 5/8 only because of the lack of better options. QLD had bugger all quality halves in the early 2000's. Hooker... I can't remember if he started a rep game at hooker tbh, maybe in a tri-nations game to give Cam Smith a rest?

Berrigan was an excellent utility, but I can't help but feel you're overrating him somewhat.

You cant over rate the Berrigan

Oh trust me, you can overrate him. You have no idea. Even to the point of a Clive Churchill medal winners tattoo...

Couldn't agree more. He wouldn't be in the top five of the Broncos' all time team in any position, but he's far and away the best utility the club has seen. Regardless of whether people think he's underrated or overrated, I doubt many would choose not to have him somewhere in the 17 if he was in his prime.

Fantastic competitor too.

The way he shut down Inglis in the grand final and played so brilliantly as hooker in a position he only ever played earlier in that year was amazing. He completely out played Smith, the worlds best hooker and made one of the best centres in recent times, Inglis, useless for the entire match.

Berrigan cannot be overrated, he would smash chuck norris too btw.

Thing is he wasn't playing a traditional hooker role in the GF. He was defending in the centres to mark Inglis. That was the plan.
