Big Dell Has Retired

hahaha thats awesome.

go Wendell. I saw him once at Wet N Wild around 1995 and there were so many kids literally hanging off him in the wave pool and he didnt care. for all his arrogance, he seems like a nice guy.

And he was incredible for the Broncos as well.

ye - good Bronco memories of him when I was a kid.

He used to be 'the winger' with all those power house teams back then...

Must be so different for players who play in different-ish eras.

Would have been interesting to see how many games he racked up if he never went to union. Would have almost certainly joined the 300 club

Never short on confidence was Dell

I like WB's fave Wendell story - first day of Broncos training, walks over to Hancock and Carne (the current Aust wingers) and goes "so which one of you two is going start the season in reserve grade?"

He sure was a character and that is sadly lacking in most modern day professional sportspeople.

Would it be right to say Wayne Bennett and Wendell more or less changed wing-play for the modern era? eg taking hit ups? Or is it more accurate to say they improved the way it was done by employing size.

No Gut, it wouldn't be correct.
Terry Fahey ( Souths winger circa 75 ) was doing it 2 decades before Dell.

Everything old is new again...

Sooner or later - a matty sing or renouf dominated type of backs will come around.
