Big Tevita Pangai Junior

I have no doubt if TPJ improves his fitness he can be as affective as Taumalolo.

That's the thing, all the big boppers get tired, except Taumalolo, he's the first impact forward I've ever seen that never slows down at any stage of the game.
That's not exactly true. After his first stint of, he usually stays off until about the 60th minute. He's gassed after the first ~25 minutes. Friday night was the first I've seen him play the entire first half, and I feel as though he wasn't nearly as effective toward the back end of the half. He's improving in that area though, as would TPJ given the game time.

people forget its taken taumololo about 3 years of nrl to get to where he is now. yes he is still super young but he's hasnt just burst onto the scene playing the way he is now. he used to struggle with the pace of the game. people used to criticise the coach for playing big mins because he never had the energy to produce the big runs. that time is paying off for them now.

this is the kind of thing we need to expect for someone like pangai. we cant just expect him to go gangbusters next year because of his 20s rep. it will take him time, just like it did with Lolo

This. But using him for 5 minutes in extra time was crazy.

This worries me. .hes gone to a level that reminds me of gallen in 2012..this would be devastating do hope to be so wrong. ..but he is just so far ahead of the rest of the comp. .this seems tough in a comp like nrl...i hope he is just a freak.

That's got more to do with the trust levels in big games. Bennett has always been reluctant to trust young forwards in big tight situation games.

Well TPJ has definitely impressed me this season and in time he could be another Petro big yards with big offloads. why he wasn't used in the final stages of ordinary time of this last game , really pissed me off , I was waiting for Bennett to give us a fresh defender as we all know how JT will always get the ball at the death and his play is crucial to their finish , JT to Morgan now that's what I call FUCKING predictable Benny and yet they pull our pants down again . Here's an idea , get Kevvy back with some fresh ideas on offensive plays for a team that's got talent everywhere and use the edge of the ruck to feed runners like Gillett etc and TPI ,create some second phase play , not just one up fucking runs with the overrated fucking Moose . The running game was what we needed out wide ,unfortunately no one was home , suspended or injured. It took for instance a committed Darius to link up with Corey Oates out wide and there's a try . Disappointing to see no reward for a great effort , we had the Cows at home there ,and not only the players will be feeling bad ,Bennett should take responsibility as well . Get your personal Shit together Wayne Bennett as I think your team has suffered as a result , and we the fans are wondering what all this weird inconsistency is week to week . I think at our seasons end we have an idea now. Am I a sore loser , **** YEAH, but not disappointed with the efforts of this team . You cannot be a good winner until you are a good loser. Next year will be my 50 th year as a dedicated rugby league fan ,but what the **** do we poor suffering Brisbane Broncos fans know eh? . Next year ,time to fix the tactics in the forwards and the back line running game. Congrats to Corey Parker , a real warrior ,and I was pleased the Cowboys respected that. Go the Broncos .

Sims burnt him forever

But anyone watching could tell we were going to get overrun eventually. It was silly to use him like a soccer sub, for obvious reasons. He tried his best though with a first-up attempted strip.

.

I know Sims isn't a name that brings back many, if any good memories at all, but I will say this, his energy, intensity and aggression, especially in the latter part of his time at the Cowboys is something we've lacked from our pack in recent years. When he did drop that ball, he was running it up like it was the first minute. I know it cost us then, but that sort of energy, in a situation when we're lacking energy definitely sparks and lifts the team. Players love playing with those sort of guys.

It was 2013 he was getting ready for an ISC Grand Final.

His manager was demanding more game time and causing all sorts of issues at the Cows because they saw his development as too slow.

I suppose the fear is a young player could do a Ben Hunt and shake their confidence for a long time, the that's why you don't wait till the 85th minute to play them! Almost as bad and far more certain to be damaging by being left benched for a whole game. If you are really worried and the team is gassed pretty obvious the solution is to bring him maybe 30 mins to 55 or 60, two short bursts then get a young guy off, regain some momentum and rest someone like Parker rather than overplay him. We have eight interchanges time to start using them sensibly.

I would like to think Bennett felt he wouldn't have been able to handle the pace of the game, because it's unlike any game he has ever played in. The games against the Cowboys are always faster.

And that he could see the Cowboys were starting to get over the top of us so he decided to stick with his experienced players.

I think he should have brought him on earlier. Perhaps in the final 10 minutes.

Disagree. As I said earlier, the time to bring him on was that period when their most experienced forwards were off imo. The final 10 of the first half, with maybe another 10 after ht.

I can only hazard a guess that Bennett was worried about his defense as he has fallen off a few tackles and he didn't want to weaken the middle, god knows we were leaking enough tries down the left. I think it's a waste of a bench spot for sure but then I cannot think who could possible have been in his place. It also makes me wonder if Bennett knew we were going to have extra time.

As I've said before, I completely understand Bennett's decision of not wanting TPJ out there towards the back end of the match, since you want your best, most experienced players out there when the games on the line, but then It begs the question, why wasn't he brought on a lot earlier in the match, when the match probably isn't won or lost?

Our forwards were fatiguing in the opening 20-25 minutes, as were theirs. That was the perfect time to bring on TPJ without the fear of him being a deciding factor defensively. The consequences of a defensive error is far greater towards the back end of a game than it is towards the start. But by not using him at all during the regulation 80 mins, it meant that our forwards were far more tired then their forwards were,

By forcing our experienced players to play extended minuted, they had nothing left in the tank in the end. If we properly use the interchange, we minimise a lot of their go forward in that last 10 mins of regular time, as well as the opening 5 minutes of extra time.
