Boyd snaps Achilles - Replacement?

Firstly in all of this i feel sorry for Boyd, really looked like things may have been coming together for him. in regards to his replacement Milford should and likely will stay at 5/8. There is no reason to sacrifice his development at 5/8 by playing him at FB when he is not the long term option. personally I think Kahu and Eden are our top options. Both are Fullbacks by trade. Eden has a lot of potential but positioning and defence look a tad suspect, but he is fairly solid, quick, with some ball and kicking skills.

Kahu I have not seen at fullback, so would love to see him get the shot.

Personally I think Hodges just needs to stay at centre, its his best position at this stage of his career, he even admits himself that fullback would be to much on his body, well what about 5/8 defending up front full time. He is not that option either.

One of the younger guy may be blooded but not before they have proven themselves to Bennett on the training park first. Bennett knows who will have the fortitude to hold our back whiled Boyd heals and I trust we will be fine in the end.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Despite not being a big Boyd fan, I'm actually gutted with this injury. He seemed to be happy down here and hopefully and he can make it through rehab without his depression creeping back into his life.

As for the team, I don't think moving Milford to fullback will help us really, when Bennett clearly has him to be our long-term 5/8. Besides, if Milf goes to the back; we would have a complete nuffy in the six. Strasser, Nichols and Kahu hardly set the ISC on fire this year - but trial form could warrant a selection in first grade.

The way I see it we have three great options for fullback - Hodges, KNikorima and Kahu.

Anyone calling for JNikorima to play first grade this season is delusional. He turned 18 on grand final day - he is still a kid, give him some time.

Re: Boyd snaps Archillies - Replacement?

Darren Lockyer is one of the greatest players this game has seen.

He is also the ultimate team player, he never asked to be moved to 5/8, he did that at Bennetts request and because at the time it was what the team needed him to do, and it certainly was a huge risk for Lockyer to do that. he was the best fullback in the world, he elected to risk his QLD and Australian jumpers because the Broncos needed him to switch positions.

Luckily Lockyer was able to make a successful transition from best fullback in the world, to best 5/8 in the world.

Lucky I said could and not did hey?

As I understand it, he's off contract in 2015, so if he doesn't play he'll probably leave anyway?

Eden will play fullback until Boyd comes (on Bennetts) back.

I think Kahu has a better chance than Eden, given he has actually played NRL before and would be my choice.

That is true.

However, when was the last time Kahu played fullback in top grade? When was the last time he even played fullback? When was the last time Eden did?

Eden has more experience in the role than Kahu, so Bennett could go with him. I would not rule it out.

Bennett may decide to let a specialist 5/8 play in the form of Nicholls although I think he wants to start early on the Milford Hunt combo. With that in my mind I think he will put Maranta in the fullback role. Maranta in turn might realise he could stitch up a place in the team if he shines. Both Eden and Kahu would likely be considered too much of a risk.

I would love to see either kahu or Eden, whoever plays the best on pre-season and trains the hardest. I just don't want it to be maranta he's a ducking rag-doll.

He played fullback in the first trial this season and set up a try to the winger from memory. Was going okay then got the knee injury

Pretty sure he was playing 6 in that game

Given the coach one of two things will happen

1. Stagg
6. Milf
7. Hunt

or

1. Milf
6. Stagg
7. Hunt

Why even say this? I realise your trying to be funny but there needs to be even the slightest possibility of it happening or it's not funny

How does everyone feel about Milford being fullback in defence and Hodges being fullback in attack?

yeah, I think the hilarity of naming Stagg as a replacement lost novelty some time ago.

I'm pretty gutted about the Boyd injury. I was not a fan of him coming back but quickly accepted that was the choice the club made so was really hoping he was going to have a good season. I'm not really sure what our best option is now, the only good news is we seem to have a few options. My preference is to have someone who plays fullback the entire game, never been a fan of seeing players swap positions during defence and attack regularly.

its been disappointing to see some posters take joy in this situation as if it backs up their agendas against Bennett, Boyd or the club in general. Seeing a "lol" at a serious injury which really threatens our success in the comp amazes me. I'm only a casual poster on here so it won't mean much but it's a shame this almost hatred of anything Bennett has really reduced the enjoyment I used to get from reading people's thoughts and opinions.

We forget Bennett named a young K Hunt at fullback from obsurity so he is not worried about blooding a young buck. Kodi may see his name at fullback sooner then later.

I just want to see Maranta given a shot. Good kid who's gotten through a horrible debut (full) season and constant reemings from the fans and Hodges, and come out the other side. Looked surprisingly good in the 5 minutes he's had in his preferred position. Bennett will go with the best option but it would be a nice feel-good story if he gets the gig.

That, and I really want to see what he's got to offer.

Both their defence at the back is pretty shocking. Imho opinion it is a mistake to consider moving milf out of 6. Leave him there for hunt and him to develop their combination. I refuse to believe that it of kikorima, jikorima, maranta, kahu, Eden or someone else there isn't an option that can do a job until boyd returns.
