Brisbane's Guardian Angel in exile, Gorden Tallis has words for banned coach Anthony Seibold. And none of them are good. The quietly spoken ex-Bronco only wants what's best for his former club, and he's not seeing that in coach Anthony Seibold:

"When the Broncos have suffered an injury there has been nobody ready to step in. They lack leadership and trust in what they are trying to achieve. Coach Anthony Seibold has lost the respect of his players and their off-field behaviour is indicative of a club that is confused about its priorities. Seibold has not made the tough decisions this year and it has hurt the Broncos in many ways. "

Leadership and trust

The solution he proffers is to glance 100km up the road to Twin Waters, to the gold standard in coaching:

"There is no better coach in the NRL than Craig Bellamy and the Broncos should be doing their best to mimic the successful system he has produced. Bellamy continues to find a way to get it done, slowly chipping away and racking up wins to set his side up for a premiership tilt in the finals. He has created a system in Melbourne that has produced an endless stream of talent, not only for the Storm but also other cashed-up clubs in the NRL. When the Storm lose a player to injury or a rival club they have another one ready to step right in and shine. They have the right balance of experience in youth in their squad."

He cites the leadership from such players as "Smith, Jesse Bromwich and Dale Finucane" which "complement the outstanding talent of Ryan Papenhuyzen, Brandon Smith and Jahrome Hughes." And gushes about their "level of trust between players and coach," "the way they play and how they develop as people. They don’t deviate from their goals." And that's because "Bellamy has always made tough decisions."

Next on Gorden's checklist for praise is the Roosters’ Trent Robinson:

"When Ricky Stuart departed the Roosters in 2006 they experimented with Chris Anderson, Brad Fittler and Brian Smith over the next six seasons. The club continued to make hard calls until it found the man they wanted in Robinson, who won the 2013 NRL premiership in his first season in charge. It’s time the Broncos started making some tough decisions and they don’t have to look far to see how it’s done."

And ends with a tip of the hat to The Warriors "for relocating from New Zealand to keep the competition alive."

Tallis doesn't even know what fucking planet he is on ... he proved that when he claimed that we just had to look down the road to get our answers on how to fix things ...

I have news for that fool ... winning 4 games out of 14 isn't exactly setting the world on fire; and making 20 year old back rowers the highest paid player in the game (because you panicked; when he was reluctant to sign with you) is not only unsustainable, but also going to cause you serious salary cap problems in the long run

stop giving this dickhead the attention (and clicks) he craves ... only then will he shut the **** up

Other than that though, it's hard to disagree with him.

Yep, 6 seasons, and 4 coaches. Sounds like a plan.

well, even if we there is no toilet paper left on the shelves due to panic buying ... we can still wipe our asses with the raging fools column ... it's about all it's good for

We've experimented with a similar number of coaches over a longer period. Is Tallis saying we should continue doing that? We've tried Henjak, Griffin, the returning Bennett, and now Seibold since the first time Bennett left.

We all know Tallis has been pushing for Walters to get the job. Just a hypothetical here, say Walters gets the job and he reaches out to his old mate Tallis to maybe rejoin the Broncos in some capacity, does Tallis accept? Say he does accept, assuming that the current administration is gone, what would that mean about the promise he gave David Fifita, who "supposedly" only signed with the Titans to be mentored/coached by Tallis?

No, he's saying the club didn't **** around with poorly performing coaches. They made the hard decision to sack them.

But so have we. We sacked Henjak, Griffin, Bennett, and likely Seibold too.

They decided not to do that after the 2016 season and actually stuck by a coach in Robinson and won back to back premierships. hmmmm

The fact we are competitive with the best sides more or less for the first 40 minutes tells you something. Those performances are for mine a real cause for optimism. We can do it. There is no question about what this side is capable of at its best.

So, you target the paralysis which sets in at the 1st sign of adversity, inevitably from the 2nd half kick off. For some reason, the bleeding obvious just isn't registering with our club. At a minimum, we need a settled side going forward, preferably without some dead wood, which is a matter for debate. I'd suggest dropping Croft and putting in Gamble for starters. Let him work with Dearden and build some combinations.

The next more important step is to bring in a seriously good professional skilled at dealing with morale. That was suggested strongly weeks ago. Nothing has been done. Our biggest problem for mine is that we do nothing to change the key elements of our decline, and it's not like that is a proposition from Wittgenstein. One of the first things Robinson did was to bring in a clinical psychologist to deal with his players individually and as a team. His runs are on the board. For mine, we don't need a new coach yet, we need someone with specialised skills to address morale.

Moaning and bleating without addressing the bleeding obvious is the hallmark of pathetic, paralysed management from the top down, and the players here are victims of that inaction as are we fans.

Exactly. I'd say the only reason the Roosters didn't sack Robinson was because it appeared that he never lost the dressing room.

I'm not suggesting we stick by Seibold, but I'm still not convinced he is the only reason we are where we are as a team. For whatever reason, it seems the senior players don't get along with him and when that happens the options then become to either sack the coach, or sack all the players. Sadly, it's often the coach who goes and the players get rewarded with this sort of behaviour by getting what they were hoping for. Maybe Seibold is a good coach, but I don't see any way how he can stay here. If he is sacked, I hope he drags down and makes public whichever players have been undermining him since he got here. Get rid of these toxic individuals before it infects the rest of the squad.

I don’t know what’s worse watching our team lose week after week or reading the inspirational wafflings of Tallis and Figjam

Uhm, he was referring to the other direction and the Sunshine Coast Storm, he is spot on with his comments as far as I can see.

Bennett wasn’t performing poorly. He had the second best win percentage in the game.

He did. However, things are a bit different now. Different game now from when Bennett was at his best. I don't see Souths as being competitive with the top 4 sides at all. I mean, look at the quality of their spine: Mitchell, Walker, Reynolds and Cook. Maybe they are leaving their run late. In any case, I don't think their problem is Bennett as much as JD. I am looking forward to see how Souths go into the business end of the season.

I get that Tallis bears a grudge for whatever reason against the Broncos and I get that he is in the cheer squad for Walters and believes that he should be the coach, but the more this season has gone on and various issues have appeared, the more I have come to realise that his comments and criticisms of the club have been pretty much spot on. It may be a shocking alternative universe, but some of you might have to come to the realisation that he is possibly correct in what he has been saying.
