OPINION Broncos ‘Set to’ Win Cobbo's Signature. Badel warning.

Most of them know when they have stuffed-up and Selwyn is no different, so you ensure it is made known to them on behalf of the club, that the club doesn’t accept that type of behaviour and you send them back to work and hope for the best. It’s a guide-and-step-aside approach, but I’m confident Selwyn has learned from it.”​

so let's figure out what our offer to Cobbo will be (since Badel doesn't give a figure in the article), although we only have the figures Badel pulled out of his ass to work it out. ok, let's do some maths:
  • Rival offer = up to $4 million over 5 years (or $800k per season) ... p.s. Badel needs a new calculator since he says offers of $4 million over 5 years is $900k per year
  • Cobbo could earn an extra $2 million over 5 years if he leaves us
  • therefore Cobbo's offer from us is $2 million over 5 years or $400k per season ... it would be $500k per season if you use Badel's $900k per season figure (5 year contract) instead of his "up to $4 million over 5 years"

I've lost track so don't take this as canon but I think Selwyn said something about waiting until the Origin is finished. The Te Maire rumour was fake news.
 
I think as a rule of thumb the local News Ltd sources (Badel, etc) tend to know the club's side of the negotiation - and for what that's worth that will likely be right - whereas other sources - Dobbo, TV journos, Sydney press - are more likely to be getting spun by the player agents, who will be using them to negotiate. The agents, not the club, are the ones feeding the media numbers, including all the incredible "offers."

So if Badel says the club is "set to" sign Cobbo, you can bank that the club "wants" to sign Cobbo. It more often than not pans out, but in situations like Haas and Fifita, shit can still go tits up. In fairness, in both those cases we knew there were shenanigans at foot.

This is why I don't really care what Cobbo is saying, he may end up somewhere else for 2024. No point having high expectations because everyone says "I love the club blah blah".

When he extends, I'll believe him. Negotiations have been going for months, and that's normally not a good sign.

Look at Melbourne, they extended Grant, Hughes (a bit of noise on Hughes but not much) and Coates with zero fuss, very quickly.

He's right to stall given his meteoric rise in value over the last couple of months.

Absolutely, but I wouldn't be so certain he's in the bag like some fans are.

If he was 100% on board he'd already have done the deal, there's a fair price for him, and there's nothing he can do to raise it unless he's trying to fish for offers from desperate clubs.

500-600k is what he's worth for a 2 year extension, there is nothing he can do to exceed that value in the short term, so any stringing along is just fucking around.

That said, maybe he has already agreed to terms and it'll be announced after Origin.

I do believe Selwyn wants to be a Bronco.. however, others have said this sort of the thing in the past and that's why we as fans have doubts until an actual contract is signed

It's also a case of how else was he suppose to answer the question? "yeah, nah, I am just waiting to see who wants to pay me the most", that's never the answer. It's usually something like he loves the club, wants to be at the club, etc
 
would love to get him signed asap but trust that ikin and DD will make the right choice as to how high to go for him

Selwyn seems genuine...and there was that photo of him as a kid wanting to be a Bronco.

Once again, it'll be a grubby manager or relative in the mix ......if his future with Brisbane goes sideways.
