Broncos History Thread

2006 was such an unbelievable and roller coaster of a year. IMO it is the greatest Broncos premiership, to come back after a form slump with the media baying for our blood and calling for players/Bennett to be sacked was special and to beat an illegall team in the grand final was the icing.

2006 was my first year living in Brisbane and thus, first year as a season ticket holder.

It was a special year for me on many levels, and seeing them win the gf in Sydney was one of my life goals completed, on top of finally having the opportunity to live in a big city and see my team every week, life was pretty damn sweet.

I remember being so down that my first game seeing them live was a 36-4 thrashing at the hands of the Cowboys, lol.

Yes, never let us forget the fact that we were playing cheats. Even cheating, they still couldn't beat us. I think the Storm took the loss personally as a fierce rivalry developed and they love beating us in the years since. I think we've only won one game since then. Who cares, though we won the only contest between us that counts and they know it.

Sucked in, cheats!

Watching that interview above, it's just dawned on me how much I miss watching Locky play.

Best I've ever seen.

Are you guys talking about Gary or Tame Tupou?

I'm pretty sure they are talking about Tame Tupou.

Edit: Just remembered he also goes by Gary Tupou. Never mind..

I don't watch the older games as often as I should, it's just amazing how far back the backline stands. Would love to see that style come back in.

Exactly when in the 2006 did Shane Webcke announced his retirement? from memory it was early in the season around Round 10 or something. I can still remember hearing about it, I was in the car with one of my sisters after her soccer training and the news was said over the radio.

April 26 2006 according to the Rugby League Annual.

Which was on a Wednesday going into the Round 8 clash against the Raiders.

My most memorable retirement was Alfie in 99. Remember hearing it over the radio as well, and wondering how we'd ever win another game.

Well, what a turnaround that season was!

Certainly was, one thing about Langer's return to the Broncos that doesn't get a lot of press, in one of Bennett's books he recalls Langer nearly doing the same in 2002 and pulling the pin during the season but Bennett wouldn't hear of it, got in some psychologist's to help him through it and he continued on and if Bennett had 1999 around again he would have done it differently.
