The Brisbane Broncos have locked in fullback Reece Walsh on a four-year contract extension to the end of the 2029 season.

At his best, the 22-year-old is one of the most exciting players in the NRL and will form a key role in Head Coach Michael Maguire's team over the coming years.

The Queenslander has already made 74 NRL appearances since making his debut for the Warriors in 2021, notching 34 tries and 57 try assists.

The Nerang Roosters product had a disrupted 2024 season playing 14 games but still managed 14 tries, 13 line breaks, 8 try assists and 62 tackle breaks in running for 154 metres per game.

With a Maroons State Of Origin debut already under his belt, Walsh has already begun his own preparations for 2025 as he locks in on a huge season for the Broncos.

"It’s a special place here at the Broncos and I’m definitely happy to be staying here at the club with all my mates – it’s a good day.I’ve wanted to play for the Broncos since I was a little kid, so I’m just really excited to be here and looking forward to getting into preseason and Round 1.

"I want to be someone who works hard, someone who brings success, someone who helps bring Premierships to this great club, but first of all I’ve got to be a good person off the field, a caring dad, a good role model and I’ve got to work hard on my footy.

“I’ve had a few conversations with Madge and hard work is one thing he touches on a lot – I can’t wait to be around the boys again and get stuck into it together.

“As a player you want to win and being a part of the Broncos that is expected, it’s a massive club with amazing members and fans, and amazing people working at the club as well as all our families, so you’re playing for more than just yourself.

“We didn’t have the best year last year and we are all looking forward to getting back in and working really hard for each other and getting the Broncos back to where the club deserves to be.”

Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy said:

"It's terrific news that Reece has re-committed to our club - he’s certainly proven himself to be an exciting player with plenty of potential.

“We’re proud of how Reece has grown from our Broncos Academy program up into our NRL roster and the State of Origin arena as well.

“Reece would have been in high demand, but he has now locked down his long-term future and he’ll play an important role in the team.”

Damn I wish our R&R team would get off their collective asses and do something FFS. 😝

Finally, you've made a post that makes sense and criticizes something the club doesn't do well - feel the relief that comes with it now my man.

I am very happy we have him signed up but it is too much money if we want to build a fair dinkum premiership side.
"The rise of superstar fullbacks, including Kalyn Ponga, Tom Trbojevic, James Tedesco, Latrell Mitchell and Ryan Papenhuyzen, has resulted in the custodians now earning significantly more money than their teammates.

The average wage of the top five fullbacks is $1.24 million. Ponga, the Newcastle Knights captain, has assumed the mantle as the richest player in the game, on a deal worth more than $1.4 million a season."

From a salary cap doco leaked to the media last year.

You're super negative dude... he'd easily get $1.1 from any of the top clubs, rorters included.

wait surely that lodge contract is not legit.
They're adding some GST, but it was a ridiculous contract.

The club saw him as the unofficial captain and Seibs had a huge opinion of him. They went back a few years when Lodge was coming through the Storm system.

That's why I never let Seibs completely off the hook when it came to recruitment and retention. Yes, he inherited some bad contracts under Bennett but he more than added his fair share.

I just couldn't believe he watched the season unfold the way it did and how poor the team was defensively and decided to reward the forwards with lavish contracts.

It may be a 5m deal over 4 years but you would be an idiot to not think at least 150K a year of that isn't third parties if not more. I highly doubt its all base salary.

I have no doubt that 5 million also includes an upgrade on his 2025 contract... So in reality is is 5 million over 5 years.

We also have to remember that the cap goes up each year for the next couple of years

I think that’s a very solid and fair deal in terms of output, potential, growth, ability to win games and ability to still sign players elsewhere in the side. It’s a million in the spine from a guy that proves he can win games at a very young age. He is our best player. It’s a good deal for a great player. I don’t feel ripped off and that’s rare for players as good as Walsh and as young as Walsh at this club.

He is absolutely worth the money but it is still too much when we want to build a premiership winning squad.
