Aw shit I've been sprung.

NYC Broncos have started their season with a win against the Sea Eagles 30-28.

Good to start the year with a win.

Judging by the stats. Caleb Timu had a stormer of a game. Nikorima, Cullen, Coombe, Garcia & Adams also looked to have strong games.

Not a convincing win by any means. Boys trailed 28-12 with 20 to play but rallied to take a hard fought win. Good stuff given that Manly side boasts a number of really good up and comers in Gutherson & Trbojevic.

Quite a comeback apparently, NYC sea eagles were up 28-12 with 21 minutes to go

Hard to say, will have to hope somebody was at the game.

Judging by the stats. he was understandably quiet.

How did Duncan go?
By the way he was taken off the field he may be gone for the season. It looked like he damaged his knee that was already heavily strapped
Nikorima and Cullen good games. Molo had a shocker with his hands, could not play the ball without dropping it and this had a small part to play in Manly scoring a few times after giving up field position.
Garcia looked good along with Timu

How long before Oates returns. I would not be surprised he and Timu are in the NRL before too long.

So not fair for Duncan....was hoping he would have a blinder this season.

He's been named on the bench for Round 2.

St. George Illawarra Dragons 40 def. Brisbane Broncos 28 (Timu 2, Capewell, Byrnes, Opacic tries; Cullen 4/5 goals)

Offensively, Caleb Timu has been one of the Broncos best nabbing four tries in just two games but his seven missed tackles were a game high. In a nut-shell, he sums the NYC Broncos up. Sound offensively, but fall to pieces in defence. They lack discipline and need to strike a good balance as other teams are making life difficult for the side. You're always going to find it tough when you're losing the meterage game by over 400m and missing over twice as many tackles.

Still, I'm liking the work from our front-row. Coombe has stepped up after a quiet 2012 with a fantastic work-rate of 16 hit ups and 35 tackles. Molo was also very destructive with his runs, earning 143m with just 14 carries.

The game also marked the return of Corey Oates and the debut of Aaron Rockley.

Brisbane Broncos NYC Side to face Sydney Roosters on Saturday the 23rd of March at Allianz Stadium.

1. Kurt Capewell
2. Paul Byrnes
3. Joseph Forrester
4. Corey Oates
5. Jack Schaffer
6. Kodi Nikorima
7. Cameron Cullen
8. Francis Molo
9. Jayden Berrell
10. Stephen Coombe (c)
11. Caleb Timu
12. Brett Greinke
13. Ben Garcia

14. Ashley Taylor
15. Travis Peeters
16. Jo Ofahengaue
17. Aaron Rockley

OUT: Tom Opacic; IN: Ashley Taylor

This game will mark Taylor's debut. The 18 year old who just celebrated his birthday on St. Paddy's day specialises primarily in the halfback position so don't be surprised to see him slot into the halves and allow Cameron Cullen to play from dummy half where he can be really effective.

Just looking at the stats from the first 2 games it appears that our backs aren't much chop. Our forwards making 100 metres plus but none of the backs. A bit alarming given our lack of quality backs at the club.

Byrnes aside, none of them have a first grade career in the backs.

Forrester and Oates could make it as backrows, I doubt Kurt will make it and haven't seen or heard bupkiss about Schaffer. Byrnes is a good prospect but is adjusting to the wing because he's in that transitional period players of his age go through where they aren't experienced enough to play their preferred position (ie fullback) and have to slog it out on the wing where they've got to pick up different skills to succeed.

It's a case by case thing IMO but instead of trying to pick the best 17 players and put them together, they'd pick the best team.

Not sure what the go is with junior wingers. Seems like they get over-looked for fullbacks and centres.

You're definitely justified to feel insecure about our back stocks. We complain about what happened with Yow Yeh, Copley, Beale, Gagai & Kahu yet players we invested in like Berwick & Leedy had absolutely rancid luck too.

Personally, I'm trying to figure out what happened to the two AIS backs we had in Rhett Webster and Jarrod Watson. Both just seemed to disappear off the face of the earth.
