Have we ever signed a first grade player from another club that has actually fit in from the beginning and done well in the modern era? Milford took a while to adjust. Barba sucked, Clinton sucked, Garbutt sucked, Kennedy sucked. Blair, Moga, Roberts, Vidot, Te'o, Hannant, Sims and Folau are others that come to mind that did ok or even great for us. Lots of drama around a lot of these players though.

Peter Wallace was MOTM like twice in his first 3 weeks. Only went to shit later.

Martin Kennedy easily worse. At least Gavet was on ice the majority of his time here. Kennedy was on the field being a complete waste of space and actively sabotaging our efforts.

Not to mention Gavet was on a bargain basement contract, Kennedy was a $400k plus contract.

No comparison whatsoever.

i thought kennedy was shithouse but probably in his forgettable time here, made at least one or two meaningful contributions.

gavet was pure trash from first to last minute. oh and he also got a 3 week suspension for an incident in the few minutes he played for us.

so to recap;

played 1 game
gave away numerous penalties
made multiple handling errors
shoulder charged someone in the game and was subsequently served a 3 week suspension (rendered moot by the next point)
did his acl in training the following week
left the club end of the year.

I really don't see how you can get worse from that. if you were to rate his time at brisbane, it would be in the negatives on a significant scale, size of contract irrelevant.

One had one game and then a season ending injury. The other had multiple seasons of stinking it up on which to judge and in the off-season when he left tested positive to steroids, his second such infringement and rubbing him out of the game for life.

being a bit pedantic here but he only played 1 season with us, 2014. so while he might've signed a 1mill contract, he only got 1 years worth from us, which granted was most likely more than gavet (i assume he signed on a minimum which is what, 85-90k?), so i mean you're looking at 20k per game of trash vs 1 85k game of trash.

Barba was dogshit for us also, just saying. I think he had 2 good games TOTAL for us in his season, which is a massive shame, because he was literally my favourite player when he was at the Bulldogs and I expected him to be absolutely unbelievable for us. Those ankle injuries screwed him.

I blame it more on the team/coaching at the time... and probably more so the issue that was Hoffman

Barba showed at the sharks the next year that with two even remotely competent halves in front of him, he is a world class fullback... and would've fit perfectly into the team structure that we like to run ie sweeping plays around the back

Hook's determination to fit Hoff into the spine resulted in Barba having to play 5/8 whether he had the 6 on or not. It was a total waste of his talents just to compensate a winger in the spine.

The shift into the 6 jersey and bulking regime just compounded the issue further.
