Tevita Pangai Jr has told Broncos teammates he’s looking at options

LAST month, Tevita Pangai Jr played an April Fool’s Day joke on Broncos boss Paul White by telling him he was quitting to join the Roosters on a five-year deal.
Now, the joke is becoming worryingly real.
The Broncos face the fight of their lives to retain Pangai Jr, with the Tongan international weighing up his future at the club more seriously than ever.
Blindside understands the off-contract Pangai Jr has told several Broncos teammates he is looking around at other options.
That doesn’t mean Brisbane won’t eventually secure his services, but Pangai Jr’s desire to explore every avenue will ring alarm bells for the Broncos’ recruitment-and-retention committee.
I just hope we are not that desperate to throw big money on this bloke

I'm okay either way. If he stays because he wants to great, I love him as a player but if he's chasing money then I really don't care if he leaves. Offer him 650kish X 2 years and reassess then. He's not someone I'd sign to a long contract.

TPJ was always going to be looking at other options.

He has always said he was backing himself to get an upgraded deal at the club. Well that's how you get one.

Think he has cooked his chances of getting a mega deal for next year. One good game all season and a suspension. Not really marquee player material.

Tpj has done sweet f a this season. Played one good game against a struggling cowboys outfit. Too many brain explosions to be a highly paid bench forward.

I completely agree, though I’m very conscious that a winger is a specialist position these days. Jamming a fullback in at wing and expecting them to understand the defensive technique at that position is a little understated. I get that it ‘should’ be fairly straightforward having a touchline as an outside defender, but the experience needed to know when to drop back, when to come forward, when to drift in-field and when to hold your line are nuances that modern wingers aren’t recognised enough for.

The bloke has been a fullback for most of his career. It must be hard to re-calibrate.
Fullbacks play a big role in organising the defensive line. If Isaako can't work out how to defend on the wing I'm not sure that bodes well for his organising everyone else.

This kid is sounding more and more like a 12 year old schoolgirl every day.

If you are going **** off already.. dont bitch around that you are thinking about leaving and spread discontent in the group.

Man up already, or **** off.

Wasn't there another article that stated that him and Lodge were looking to extend contracts with the Broncs so they can become forward leaders? Why would the media do this to us..........

That article I think was from Chris Garry, this article a nobody who says absolutely nothing no one else, including me and you, could say. I wouldn’t worry.

Yeah, it was a tongue in cheek go at the media. If there's a chance to **** us up, they'll do their best.

Worth noting that 'Blindside' or whatever the **** they call this column is up their with The Lurker and The Mole. It is unsubstantied, unquoted, unsourced gossip.

TBF to Pangai, this article hasn't given any quotes from any "sources" (which likely means they don't actually have any).

it seems that what has happened is they have taken a standard thing that all NRL players do, i.e. looking at the options available to them, and written a clickbait article from it

Fai playing BRL this week, probably safe to say there is a spare spot in the top 30 in 2020.

In regards to TPJ next contract I think the ball is in our court now. He has been worse this year than last year, been suspended and massively inconsistent.

I would be offering him no more than 600k a season. We would surely have to offer him more than Joe O, even though we paid overs for Joe on his current form. ( actually I don't even know what the going rate for a bench rotation prop is. )

I wouldn’t go that high at the moment in fact I think we should hold off until after Origin and see how he goes over the next couple of months or so. He has not shown much so far this season.
