Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

Love Kempy’s take on some of this stuff. Walsh looks promising.

Interested to see what his defence is like. I know he is a fullback but he looks like he could be an interesting hooker (similar to cook). Quick out of dummy half, splits the A and B defenders and has a good step and pass.

Just a thought.

The Broncos are in talks to extend the contract of promising teenager Herbie Farnworth as they move to sure-up their outside back stocks long term.

Farnworth can play fullback, wing or centre and impressed in two NRL games for Brisbane this year - a 24-22 win over the Sharks and an 18-all draw with the Warriors. Against the Warriors he showed plenty of physical toughness and endurance out of his own end, making 144 metres from 19 runs.

The 19-year-old is on contract until the end of 2020 and the Broncos are keen to extend his stay for a further two seasons. There is interest from other clubs in the England-born Farnworth, who is also a talented soccer player formerly in the Manchester United junior system.

Farnworth enjoyed a stellar season in the Intrust Super Cup for Norths Devils, scoring 204 points from 20 tries and 62 goals in 16 games.

He has a robust and athletic frame - he is 190cm and weighs 94kg - and is highly regarded at the Broncos for his work ethic and mental strength.

The Broncos have already extended 18-year-old outside back Xavier Coates’ deal until the end of 2021 after he impressed in three top grade games for the club this year.

Former Queensland Reds flyer Izaia Perese, who played two Telstra Premiership games off the bench, is on the books until the end of 2020.

Darren Lockyer, on the club’s retention and recruitment committee, said recently that the Broncos also want to keep centre Kotoni Staggs long-term with the robust centre already secured until the end of next season.

Staggs can negotiate with other clubs from November 1 but the Wellington product is now the first picked for the Broncos in the centres after a stellar 2019 season.

Former Brisbane centre and NRL.com columnist Steve Renouf said the club needed to have competition for spots in the outside backs and has been impressed with the development of Farnworth, Coates and Perese.

"Herbie Farnworth is maturing into a really good player," Renouf said.

"He is physically and mentally tough, he’s quick and he has a good work rate. I like the way he goes looking for the ball and he showed against the Warriors that he doesn’t mind the contact.

"Coates and Perese have done well each time they have played so it is promising that we seem to have good depth in the outside backs, and you need that competition for spots.

"When I was coming through the Broncos had Chris Johns and Rohan Teevan and then they signed Dale Shearer, Tony Currie and Peter Jackson so I had to play my best footy to get into the team."

Would anyone take Drew Hutchison? Roosters probably need to let a half go for the arrival of Walker and Flanagan so maybe we should go after him

This isn't Origin. It's a very different story at club level. People just need to actually watch him play.

I found this comment very interesting, so I did some research in to his club numbers from this year, what I found was intriguing.

I think he's actually worse at club level.

I was going through and comparing his numbers to the most bog average centres I could think of in the NRL who played a comparable number of games this year, he's essentially worse than all of them in terms of production. Here's a few of them -

Will Chambers - 23 games, 6 tries, 3 try assists, 76.1 running metres, 79% tackle efficiency

Brad Parker - 19 games, 5 tries, 3 try assists, 83.4 running metres, 85% tackle efficiency
Tom Opacic - 19 games, 7 tries, 5 try assists, 96.4 running metres, 86% tackle efficiency
Hymel Hunt - 24 games, 9 tries, 0 try assists, 113.1 running metres, 84% tackle efficiency
Waqa Blake - 19 games, 4 tries, 3 try assists, 113.5 running metres, 81% tackle efficiency
Peta Hiku - 23 games, 6 tries, 10 try assists, 114.6 running metres, 76% tackle efficiency
Euan Aitken - 24 games, 6 tries, 5 try assists, 122.1 running metres, 87% tackle efficiency

And this is purely positive statistics, that's not even Chambers biggest weakness, his biggest weakness is the brain snap decisions / errors / penalties that he invariably gives away nearly every game. (22 errors in 23 games this year)

God he’s shit

On 360 Hooper is definite that Croft will be at the Broncos next year just coming down to money

Hooper is so far wide of the mark with this one, trust me.

I will say it again, Croft will NOT be coming to the broncos in 2020.

Sezer is the one we should be going after.
The only choice imo

And yet defends on the side of the field that is the best in the competition. We can score points, stopping them is the problem at the moment. Any when you have Vunivalu outside of you, you get passed over a lot but he does know how to run great lines. We need a calming factor out wide for the young backline players who has big game experience and Chambers fits the bill. Sure he is a Hodges, but he is close enough to him in terms of experience. And im not advocating throwing 800k at him. If we could get him for 300k it would be good value. Anything besides Shibasaki at centre especially if Bird leaves the club.

Yeah. I have come to this way of thinking too. 2 year deal. I like Lachlan Lewis too and he could be a long term squad player but Sezer seems to have what we need.
