Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

Unless the Broncos are looking to make some big signings over the offseason (somehow), Bird leaving a season early doesn't really make a difference in terms of money, does it? He'll be gone after next year anyway, as will probably a bunch of other players like Milford and co.

With Bird, I would be asking him to show loyalty to the club that carried him for 3 years on a massive contract. Ask him to sign his next contract with us for $300k a season.

I agree. He still has something to offer. I wouldn't even be offering to cover any of his wage. He isn't washed up, he is just constantly injured.
I think he still has plenty to offer us.

A fit Bird in the centres will be invaluable for us next year, especially if a few of our senior players (Glenn/Boyd/Milf) are leaving.

NRL.com reporting Dragons and Bulldogs interested in Bird that would be heavily subsidised in the first 12 months by Brisbane.
Literally no point shipping him off and paying someone for the opportunity... the squad is now missing strike from Fifita and likely TPJ.

We dont need cap space anymore so why keep punting guys out of the squad

He will be injured next season and we will be coughing up 900k for the previlage. A subsidised move is the best option. A 400k player thats fit will benefit us more.

Who the **** cares if he's injured he'll be gone in 2022... who exactly are we going to buy??

We just freed up $1.3m with fifita and TPJ and have no one to buy

What if he's not injured... he's playing for his future next year.

Only way he should be let go is if someone is paying full freight for him

We need a complete overhaul but this wasn’t the year to do it because there’s nobody worthwhile off contract. At least if we get Walters and he continues as the QLD coach (if QLD wants a successful Broncos this is a must) he might be able to use that to convince players to want to play for us. Otherwise we have no bargaining chips.

Also we need a new board ASAP. They shouldn’t have heir hands all over the selection of the new coach. They’re proven failures. White should never be considered for a similar job ever again

I'm with you there but if letting go of Bird helps us get Smith then I'm 100% happy to let him go.

More likely we'd let him go under the promise of Smith and then he doesn't fly in the rain so we're left with a $2m hole in our cap that we decide to spend on spuds for long term deals

I think there's still many players who would come to the Broncos and I believe it would take three spoonish seasons before we completely lost our shine. We have a lot of core credibility and I doubt there's anyone out there thinking we'll be at the bottom of the well for decades to come. We'll become a force again, just as soon as we get Flanagan up here! Dreaming I know but when we get things right on and off the field we'll be bach. JSB, CPEB, JCB, GHB, JCFB, JLB and more!

If we're paying anything more than $200K of Bird's salary I have no interest in releasing him either. Bulldogs and Dragons have cash to splash, pretty sure they can afford $600-700K for Bird.

If they want us to subsidise it more, play hardball, say no... pretty simple. It's not like he's a dud player, he's very good when he's on the field, just needs a bit of luck.

I think the bounce back will be quicker than many are expecting. The pull of playing for the Broncos will still be there, having a team stacked with entitled and selfish players is the exception over the past thirty years and once a backbone is re-established with the decision making and team selection this can be sorted very quickly.

We need bird and Boyd more than ever believe it or not.

as long as his rumoured sternum injury isn't the systemic type, Bird should offer plenty next season. It might however be a good idea to not try and force him into a spine position.

Gives us some insurance then in case he gets hurt once more, we can still have a spine intact...

Thats how worried I am about the chances of this bloke actually completing at least 1 full NRL season...

As for Flanno; very good reason why Saints now have temp coach number 4 in the comp right now instead of him...
