Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2014

One thing I notice with Rugby League articles, if they get a guys name wrong, they're not a credible source.

Better not share that opinion on LU.

There will be tears.

It would be annoying if this were a ploy all along by the Roosters. Palm Kennedy off to a club that's willing to pay big money. Have him perform miserably. Then when he is told to bugger off, sign him again with that club paying a portion of his contract under the cap. I know it's not the case, but I like to further my distrust & hate for the Roosters via my imagination.

no loss if hala leaves. i'd like him to stay and fulfill that p word, but it's not as if he's been a huge asset to the side the past few years so you can hardly say we'll miss him if he does go.

looks like a 2+2=5 story at the moment.

Nah, he's not Griffin. The overemphasised words do not fit in line with Hook's monotonous speech patterns. Unless that is part of the disguise. He doesn't know how to speak with emotion, so when trying he sounds like an alien trying to copy Earth language.

HULKING Broncos prop David Hala is set to leave the club and sign with the Gold Coast Titans.

After missing out on Ben Hannant and following the retirement of of foundation player Luke Bailey, the Titans are desperate for a quality prop and are currently in advanced negotiations with the Broncos to snare Hala.

The 115kg front-rower is under contract at the Broncos next season but coach Wayne Bennett has reportedly earmarked new signing James Gavet, Mitch Garbutt and NYC gun Joe Ofahengaue as his back-up options to starters Corey Parker and Josh Maguire.

Hala’s manager Mark Stewart did not choose to single out the Titans as the frontrunners for his client’s signiture but did admit there were no shortage of offers.

“Brisbane are still keen on him. A few clubs that are short up front called me recently about Dave just to see if he’s an option,” Stewart told the Courier Mail.

“If anything happened (with another NRL club) and I don’t know if it will it would be a while away.

“He’s contracted to Brisbane.”

Even the Dolphins are laughing at that..

Yeah, I knew we were paying huge overs for him at the time, since it was clear he was on his way to not even being in the top 4 Roosters front rowers. Actually, he already wasn't even then.

Brisbane Broncos rugby league club seek front-rowers after departures, injuries

THE Broncos are hunting for one more top-line forward after releasing three front-rowers in two weeks and then watching prop recruit James Gavet get diagnosed with a potentially serious shoulder injury.

The Broncos have lost 450kg of front-row muscle in the past fortnight as they make space in their salary cap to ensure they can upgrade their emerging stars and make a splash in the 2016 player pool.

Ben Hannant, Martin Kennedy and Dave Hala have all been released while Gavet had scans on Wednesday on a pre-existing shoulder injury to see if a reconstruction is needed.

The Broncos are awaiting the final result of Gavet's shoulder scans, but if it is worst-case scenario and a reconstruction is required he will be sidelined for up to five months and likely to miss the season’s opening rounds.

The Broncos knew Gavet had shoulder issues when they signed him on a bargain-basement two-year deal from the Wests Tigers last month but a reconstruction would be a bitter blow to Wayne Bennett’s rebuilding plans.

The Broncos now have one top-25 roster place to fill but will have two if Josh Hoffman secures a deal at a rival club, likely the Gold Coast or Canberra.

The departure of Hannant and Kennedy in particular has eased cap concerns at the Broncos, clearing a mess left by the previous football administration that had two front-rowers among the club’s highest paid.

The squad starts training under new coach Bennett on Wednesday.

Hannant has signed with North Queensland while, as revealed in The Courier-Mail, Kennedy has signed with the Sydney Roosters and Hala has signed with the Gold Coast Titans.

St George Illawarra utility forward Trent Merrin looms as a potential answer to the Broncos front-row crisis.

The Broncos have had informal talks with Merrin while the Dragons’ salary cap struggles saw them release backrower Bronson Harrison on Wednesday.

Harrison could be the ideal fit for the Broncos as Corey Parker moves to the front-row permanently next year.

Ex-Broncos captain Wally Lewis said Bennett must have a master plan otherwise he would have kept at least one of the three released props.

“When you first think about it you think it is concerning but the Broncos are the type of club that would not have done this without having a long-term plan,” Lewis said.

“They know what they are doing and have obviously made some tough decisions.

“I remember first seeing Marty near a golf course when he was doing his first training session for the Broncos and the way he spoke made me confident he would find success up here.

“I hope he kicks on because he’s a good person.”

The Broncos are confident in their front-row stocks, which is why they were happy to release Kennedy and Hala.

The Broncos have two of the best young props in Australia in Frank Molo and Joe Ofahengaue.

Their front-row rotation next year will be Josh McGuire, Parker, Mitch Garbutt, Mitchell Dodds, Jarrod Wallace, Molo, Ofahengaue and Gavet.

Bronson Harrison, oh Jesus no. I thought the key to signing players was to sign better than your current depth at least.

**** I hope we don't get Harrison.

I really don't want Bronson Harrison.. let's not do that.

I'd love Merrin though, I really hope we sign him, he may be slightly overrated, but he's only 25 and has all the tools to be a dominant player, with rep experience.

I'm a little bit dimwitted, do you want us to sign Merrin or are you against it Pete?
