Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2014

Mose Maseo is looking at returning to the nrl to maybe sign with the Dragons. How good would he be for the Broncos!

I doubt we'll actually sign Merrin. We are obviously pushing the cap (if not actually breaking it), if the NRL were investigating us. Yeah, we lost Kennedy, but that only frees about 100K, and we are still paying the rest of his cash. Lost Hannant and Hoffman, but we'll be paying them off too. The club seems to think Boyd is a more improtant target, so that's where most of the money will go.

We were only investigated because the Broncos self-reported. Our cap has been so safe that we keep front-ending contracts for players like Parker etc, allowing room for future recruitment etc. I would still suspect that the Roosters will be paying a minimum of $200k for Kennedy. The Broncos would not have released him had they had to pay more than half his contract. As has been said, Hannant was off contract. That alone is $500k freed up. I would assume that the Titans will be paying Hoffman at least the full value of what he was on here. Yow Yeh officially retired, and even though we weren't carrying his full value last year, it would still be at least $100k. All up that's $1.2 million we have freed up. Gavet would be a straight swap for Hala as they're both minimum contracts. Same goes for Granville and Waddell. Unsure of Garbutt's deal. So even if Boyd is $600k, and Milford is $350k (IIRC, at least for the first year or two), that's still a net gain of $250k.

I must be watching a different Merrin because the guy I watch I s a gun who's offloading is up there with Parker's. Seriously I can't see why people are not happy with it..? He is by far the best forward that we have a chance to sign. He makes plenty of metres plus draws a lot of defenders by standing and trying to offload which is what we need. He is aggressive and tough to which is what we also need.

I just don't see why, the price tag would be quite high. Its going to decimate our pack around origin and id rather a younger, less expensive, non origin forward, preferably a qldeer. For his price could could secure 2 or 3 younger guys.

We don't really know at this stage what potential money. Wayne has a way of getting guys for less

I think your thinking of Brent Merrin

Well if history is anything to go by, Wayne never seems to sign forwards for big money, so I don't think he'd break the bank to sign Merrin.

That's how I see him too.

I am hoping that Wayne is targeting both Merrin & Boyd simultaneously. They're ex-teammates, and premiership winning teammates at that. "Darius, you want $600k. Trent, you also want $600k. Well guys, I have $800k to offer. Between the two of you. Are you willing to split it? Before you answer, do either of you expect to win a premiership at the Knights or Dragons?"

costigan has quit Hull KR i hope bennett isnt bringing him back here.

I don't think Costigan would add anything to our team.

Didn't Bennett play him at prop for the Dragons? If he was 25 still I'd take him, not now.

interesting tidbit about this comment. I was fortunate to attend a grand final legends lunch at this years grand final and was seated next to Royce Simmons. I asked him how he thought The Broncos would go under Bennett again and his response was along the lines of "well your salary cap will start going a lot further"

i think Merrin would be a good signing, imo he is a quality player.

Costigan was a good player in his prime, a very good player.. But he's 29 now, not so sure.. would be decent depth if he comes dirt cheap.

Give me Big Nev on an incentive based contract over Kennedy on 300-500k.

He's aggressive and hard hitting. Played origin and would have two premierships if it wasn't for the *glug-glug-vroom" at the broncos. As a cheap bench option he could be our version of what Mason brought to the knights.

Id take Nev from off the bench, instead of Stagg.

And Bennett is quoted as saying Costigan is the only player that would kill for him

Look out AP
