Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

I think we have a fair chunk of cash in the cap heading into next year.

If that's the case the club probably want to wait it out a little bit and see if a big fish lands on the market... like a BSmith.

We could also be looking to keep that roster spot open in case we have a major injury... if a top 30 spot is available we might be able to bargain with a club to take an unwanted player that fills a hole for us.

Also I don't think losing Bull was a choice the club wanted to make... more likely that it was a move that Bull was pushing.

Brandon Smith should be a must. We need that top tier hooker and we would be mad not to go for Manu. A spine with Manu, Reynolds and Smith, plus Haas and Staggs would make us attractive for other players to want to come here.

Plus, we have the biggest drawcard in the game, the opportunity to play alongside this specimen

I know everything as you all know, and i've been saying Carrigan is a prop even before he played first grade. He is a prop who can do a job at lock if we need him to, but he isnt a top tier lock. Thats the end of that.

I have spoken.

This doesn’t bode well for you making it through to season 2.

Agree, however there is a salary cap.

I could live with just smith and either cobbo or nui following him around the middle at fullback

I’m not even sure we need Smith. I just love what I saw with his improvement through the year. I really think he might well be the answer there and a heck of a lot cheaper than Smith will be.

Who? Paix?

Will be interesting come nov 1 if the club look to lock turpin up longer personally i dont think they do,i think paix and him will be swapped around much like our halves were to find out which we want to invest longer term in.

Could be wrong tho

Paix has been extended until the end of 2023. I think the club has shown their hand.

I dont think Turpin is even close to him, and Paix i think needs a year or 2 purely as a 14 to get himself some NRL game time.

Manu is just a quality footballer, we would be mad not to try for him. We showed improvement this year, and Arey and Capewell are good starts, but we still badly need some star power and i think Manu and Smith provide that and are both good ages with their best footy in front of them.

You might be right but my plan would be this:

Turpin starts the season at 9 with Paix off the bench with increasing minutes. By mid-season, Paix is starting 9 with Turpin off the bench and increasing minutes. If he doesn't cut it, go after Smith. If we miss Smith, that isn't the end of the world by any means. I'd be going after Grant regardless.

However, we won't get Grant and I dunno, I just think Paix has it, I really rate him.

By the time Smith and Grant futures are sorted by 23 Paix may be starting 9 with that young bloke from Keebra Mozer getting a run in the 14 jersey as he'll be 19-20 then with a year to year and a half of cup under his belt.
So if we miss out on Smith and Grant there is still a plan in place.

Paix has gone past that, Dolphins dicked him around for 12 months and he was treading water. This year given the 9 and minimal games he's shown he can improve. Another two years in 14 would see him go backwards.

He's played 9 games this year, and he's been great. Nine games at 9 and 50 minutes a week was enough to improve and look like a nine. No point going backwards.

He either gets the the Nine and plays NRL or keep playing at Souths so he gets 50 minutes and goes past him anyway.

Do you think he will take the 9 off Turpin at some stage next year?

You could be right there. His form would have to be exceptional to jump in front of Turpin early on I reckon which is why I think coming off the bench is his best option for NRL time next year. I think if he is consistently performing to a high standard he would oust Turpin from the team. If we had a Brandon Smith we could easily use Paix in tandem with him like the storm do.
