Then maybe it’s time to do a Shane perry and choose a seasoned isc half back who can steer the team to where it needs to be on the field. Surely Wynnum or Norse or Redders has someone who can kick and tackle?

If the club are serious about making a splash I would be submitting the following deals
Papenhauzen 4 year for 6 million
Reynolds 3 years 2.8 mill

It’s dumb shit like that which lead to where we are now
Why is it dumb to target players that are top 3 in their positions with big offers? You forget we just won the wooden spoon? This isn’t the 90s any more, you want talent you pay for it. At least those two are proven winners

Angus Crichton set to stay at the rooster and won't be testing his value on the open market. Apparently purely because he loves the bondi lifestyle.

I mean seriously they could at least pretend they're testing the market and not getting 3 houses, a boat and 2 new cars plus a brown paper bag on top of their salary for winning the weekly golf match?

Its funny the dogs and every other team wanting to pay Piakaru massive dollars to join them despite never playing an NRL game yet a proven star like Crichton doesn't doesn't gain any interest? We have teams trying to take Deardon who's unproven immediately yet no one even blinks an eye at off contract Crichton...

Or off contract Sam Walker

Seems to be the nature of professional RL in this country nowadays - everyone is more focused about the future than the present. Basically the NRL is one continuous 'block play'

Yeah, I’ve also seen no reports of interest in Glenn, Turpin, Oates, Milford, Asiata, Niu etc etc. sure they’re not Angus but it seems that youth seems to be what they report on. Guys like Taupau, Rapana, Hoppa, Ash Taylor, Funicane. There’s no narrative to run with I guess

Even if we manage to sign some decent players, we probably have no idea what to do with them.

Even a casual league watcher can observe and identify that with the new rule changes and emphasis on the ruck, the days of having your #13 as a third middle forward are well and truly dead. All the top 4 sides have quality ball-playing locks who create opportunities in the middle of the field (Murray, B. Smith, Yeo, Radley) and all of the bottom 4 sides are stuck in yesteryear, barging it up the middle with another prop.

So Kevvie goes out and buys Asiata ... a savvy, cheap move which provides a genuine ball-playing lock and plus a big hole in our team to bring us into the new age of NRL football. Instead of actually letting him play, we persist with a young, inexperienced PROP in the 13 jumper and Asiata is dropped everytime Kevvie changes his mind and wants a different half on the bench for 10 mins of game time.

It's so painfully simple... we have talent, we just don't have the understanding, knowledge or structures to turn those individual talents into a competititve team.

Whilst I do agree that we have the talent and we have a lack of structure and knowledge with the new rules and the 6 again era... however the talent we have even with a non ball playing lock should be performing far better... the execution is just plain and simple shithouse and that’s our problem

100% agree... just find it frustrating having discussions around bringing in new players to fill holes when the players we've brought in previously aren't even being used competently.

Because players are open to leaving cellar dweller teams.

Why would you leave a team in the top 4 unless you were stuck behind someone else position wise?

Team lists will be interesting today... I would like to see 13. TPJ , 14. Asiata , 15. Carrigan.

However there have been rumblings that TPJ will be on an edge and Riki to the bench.

I dont mind TPJ going to the edge. I think he has slimmed down a little this year and he seems a little less effective at prop, as he's getting driven back a bit and then forcing offloads.

The biggest issue of course will be his defence on the edge and fitness.

If Carrigan is starting at 13 I just hope he's rotated better and Asiata plays a fair chunk of minutes at 13 off the bench

Mod edit: Trash corp reckons we stuffed up because we wouldn't give Turner a top 30 deal.
--

Even up until 6 months ago I would have thought there was no possible way this was true... now I just shrug and take it as fact and wonder how we can yet again be so monumentally useless in every facet of running a football team.

I reckon given everything going on at Cronulla, some of their players are gettable. SJ in particular was highly critical of the decision to go for Fitzgibbon over Morris and the way it has all gone down. I'd be going for him and trying to strike while the iron is hot.

I wonder if Fitzgibbon will go the way of Seibold. He is going into that club already being perceived as a traitor / backstabber.

In reality:
Broncos don't consider NZ rookie halfback good enough for the $300k contract he is demanding. They have instead opted to promote a member of their elite pathways program (likely Cobbo) to the now vacated development contract following departure of Walsh.
