Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

He didn't have a pre-season as starting fullback though. From memory he was either selected as the 14 or 18 for round 1. Jack Bird spent the off-season training at fullback and would have been our fullback had he not injured himself during the last training session before the season started.. So essentially, this season is his first season as starting fullback given he has been training there during the pre-season.
Yeah, that rings a bell now you say it. I do know his first game, the season opener he was jersey number 18 so that aligns with your recollection. Thanks for that. It seems that both my detractors and I are half right. Splendid result.

Am I the only one worried that Wayne has been involved? Like why would he help us after everything that has gone down?

More than likely it’d be because Wayne still loves the club, he just hates the people running it. But the fact that Kevvie is in charge of the team now instead of the blow in that the board sacked Wayne for would also mean Wayne would now care how the club fares under someone he has a good relationship with.

Same reason Gorden Tallis magically doesn’t bag us at every opportunity now

Isaako was the original choice for fullback but lost out to Jack Bird. Bird impressed the coaching staff more during the pre-season and out-played Isaako during the trials. Isaako still found a place in the team as the utility back off the bench before Bird suffered his ACL rupture in the lead up to the Cowboys game.

It's a role he's been groomed for ever since he joined the club in 2016. His game hasn't evolved that much in that space of time and he's still as wildly inconsistent as he was back then.
Wasn’t Herbie training at fullback this off season but injury again Bradbury’d Isaako into the role by season start.

Am I the only one who thinks a Reynolds & Milford halves combo would work very well?

Reynolds is the exact half that Milford needs, someone who can control the tempo of the game and take the lion's share of 5th tackle options close to the goal line, with Milford chiming in occasionally and picking his moments.

As long as Milford re-signs for about 1/3rd of his current contract value, I'd be keen to see how it goes.
I think it would work to but I wouldn’t be gain to put money on it

Fair enough. A loss of form and a loss of ability are not the same thing though, right? I guess I'm treating this year as his first real go but I must admit I got it wrong earlier on. He did start off last year as our fullback and that rightfully could be described as his rookie season in the position. 2020 isn't a fond memory and clearly not an accurate one either.

I got that wrong and accordingly apologize to those with whom I argued the toss. You guys were right and I was wrong.

I dont think his ability ( mostly ) has been called into question. He just seems to have a big mistake in him for every really good piece of play at the moment. I think we should leave him at fullback for the year and see if he can irradicate the negatives. The position is his for the taking really.

I feel Storm would be more upset to lose Hynes than what they were when they were giving Croft away
For sure because he is the ideal utility, like what we had in Kodi back in the day.

Melbourne realised pretty quickly that Croft had peaked too early and by the later stages of 2019 knew he wasn't going to play for them again.

I do think at current though if Melborune lost Paps to another team they would be looking elsewhere for a fullback rather then use Hynes, he could probably be manufactured to be a Halfback like Hughes but as a fullback he doesn't have any X factor required to be elite there.

Thats always been my take on him, he is still exactly the same fullback he was at Souths.

Be interesting to know if South’s fans would feel similar to how we felt when we lost Petero.

I know Reynolds isn’t a future immortal but Imagine the Broncos only offering Lockyer a one year deal at 31 years of age to bank on unknown teenagers in the lower grades? The fan base would have run the board out of town.

I can’t believe they are prioritising Cody Walker over Reynolds when Walker is easily the more dispensable player.

You put Reynolds into the team this year and we are 5/9 to start the year with his game management
Clubs looking on the up and up
How much of a dumb **** does dearden look like now 😂

Any chance Coates wants to backflip on the Storm?

Reynolds would have an absolute field day being able to have a tall rangy target winger to aim cross field kicks too. Coates seems more of a loss now if we have indeed secured Reynolds.

That’s my feelings too but provided we get him at the right price, he will at worst bring a professionalism and an attitude coming from a good system that our team has been in desperate need of. He also could be a fantastic utility player who covers a few positions.

There not giving away Hynes... A. I believe he is off contract considering he signed a 1 year deal last year and B. He has said he is leaving already for a starting spot

Isaako was considered the starting fullback from the moment Walters arrived.

Herbie missed the majority of the pre-season and while Walters did toss his name up as a potential fullback Walters was quick to throw his support behind Isaako.

I think that's what really sent the Herbie to fullback movement into overdrive after it was suggested last year. Herbie started his junior development as a fullback so fans maybe seeing those qualities in his gameplay but he largely played wing for the Broncos U/20s and Devils.

a quick look on the Rabbitohs forum and they are somewhat pissed.

someone is saying that Reynolds should be dropped now.

another seems to think their general play will improve with their young half given control

and many are annoyed they're losing him
Par for the course really, like this place with Coates.

I think he will be more then happy throwing/kicking the pill to one of any of Oates, Isaako or "Milford".

Hooper and his mates have also been bleating non stop the last 2 weeks how Reynolds wouldn’t leave Sydney as well.

I can’t wait to watch NRL360 to watch the sheepish looks on their faces when this becomes official.

Even Andrews John’s has come out and said it’s a crime and a sad day if Reynolds leaves South’s.

It’s going to be a glorious week of media next week gents. I suggest you saddle up early and buy Copious amounts of your favourite spirits and warm up the popcorn because we have been crying out for something like this to pick up our spirits over the course of this diabolical 2+ years.

This is the feeling you get when you see light at the end of a very dark and long tunnel. hopefully this is just the beginning .

Donaghey has already done more in a week in regards to the football side of things than White did in his entire tenure
I might break my NRL360 ban just for this.

But of course their bid was less - anything to dampen our renewed spirit **** off Read.
