Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Rumour has it the Broncos have around $300k to spend on another forward. (source: trust me)

Ben Ikin:

“No, we won’t be making an offer for Paul Vaughan. There are a number of props around but Vaughan just doesn’t fit in with what we’re considering in terms of roster planning. I won’t go into too much detail but there are a couple of scenarios at play between now and the end of the season about what we need to fill, how we fill it, and how much money we’ve got to fill it. It’s a moving feast at the moment. The player market is so fluid that we’ve got multiple scenarios.”

"Everything will be considered on its own merits. We will base our decision with Tevita on what gets put to us. At this stage, we are committed to getting the best out of the players that we’ve got, for as long as they are here, for the rest of the season."

“The roster-management issue is sitting in the background with many moving parts. We will be as well-advanced in the planning as we can across multiple scenarios, so that if something is put to us, then we are well-prepared to make a decision at speed. If Tevita’s management comes back to us with something concrete, then we will sit down and work our way through it.”

Now THAT sounds like strategic management - something the former regime would not really understand.

Also, TPJ to the Dogs I think is good for all parties. The Dogs need an X-Factor in their forwards because they are full of solid workmen, They also have the cap space you'd think to accommodate most or all of his salary. TPJ goes to a club with loud supporters which would probably help him with motivation and is also a club with a lot of ingredients to work their way back up with Burton and Adoo-Carr also going there next year. It is a promising club on the upward swing you would think and TPJ in theory, would add a lot to them.

The problem they have moneyballing in reinforcements compared to the old days is they used to be able to increase their value through coaching and third party deals. But these days, instead of the Bennett and Bellamy tag team we have Kevvie, the lowest ranked coach in the NRL.

And the salad days of trotting them down to McDonald & East to model King Gees to late night shoppers, well that's gone the way of rotary dial phones. The best we can offer is it's cheaper to buy a house up here, and only a 90-minute radar-infested drive through heavy traffic to watch coachroaches crawl out of beer cans on Cavill Avenue.

Like it - can see Ikin is implementing a no d*&$k head policy
Glad Ikin has somewhat of an outsider perspective. The problem has clearly been cultural due to the type of personalities and egos that have been brought into the club. We released Jai Arrow in order to keep TPJ, for example.

Few things, I love this group, even if there is the occasional opinion fuelled dickheadery.

I'm stoked to see Gamble may re-sign, I also agree with the notion he could play 13. I'd also be OK with him in the 14.

The Dikin Duo are doing a great job, actual administration is new for us.

Re Kennedy, I think he is hard working and no fuss, just needs some more match fitness, he has given away a few set resests (historically)

I also noticed that Tesi's cardiovascular falls short of the mark at the moment, and towards the back end of the game, he was struggling to get in position

no we didn't ... we chose not to get into a bidding war for Arrow, because we had a similar player coming through in Carrigan

I have a feeling he was told to bulk up to handle the front line defence at centre. Obviously, that didn't last long and now he must get back into fullback condition. I think the rest of this season and another pre season could do him a world of good.

We used the money we saved on keeping TPJ.

That doesn't surprise me. I wasn't at all impressed with what I saw from him in the ISC. To me, he looked lazy and disinterested. But maybe I got the wrong read. I hope so. He has the number 1 to lose from here. And I'd like to keep Jamayne on the wing.

Isaako performed well on the weekend, including a last ditch try saver. I think when he can use his skills more 'explosively' he is more dangerous. He had to think to much at FB.

We let Arrow go simply because we couldn't afford to keep him at the time. If we had the money, he would still be here
I like Arrow and do think he has his best footy in front of him but I don’t think he’s worth anymore than 500k at this stage. He was typically built up as all Broncos players are to be the 700-850 kind of forward but fir me he’s just not there.
I would love to get him back but not for the money his manager would be asking. And a few clubs out there will pay that.

What the thoughts on signing Paul Vaughan?

He'd be better value than that shunt, Aaron Woods?

Vaughan is not just some big dummy that fucked up. He has knowingly gone against his club's and coaches specific directions which were only given hours before, encouraged team mates to come along, attempted to deceive the nrl, integrity unit and police and is still lying and avoiding questions.

He has not attempted to understand the impact his decisions have had on others or even his mates that were invited (they have all got massive fines because they listened to him), his concern is completely on himself, being caught and how that affected him.

We have all spoken about trying to remove the toxic, self entitled and selfish culture in the club and people are suggesting this clown? **** me, this guy is everything we are trying to remove.

Screw that guy, we dont need a player of this type, whether they are decent player or not, around our playing group.
So much this. I am amazed there's posters here who would take him.
I get it would only be on a bargain deal, but I wouldn't want him for free.

We're clearing the dickheads out so it's a hard pass.

Talent wise I rate him very highly but culture wise hard no.

Fair 'nuff.....but other than in this instance, I'm unaware of him historically being a dickhead?
