This is why I am so against giving Payne a million, no matter how good he is (and he is great).

Yep, I've been firming on that conviction the more I think about it. Paying him what he's "worth" would be terrible moneyball. The only way he can justify even the money he's on now is to become the offload specialist. He needs to do more than just rack up metres. He needs to rack up points.

That's why Kotoni is worth the big money. And also why Flegler is our worst buy.

We already have the best prop in the comp, and he's not winning us games. If we had the best hooker, five-eighth, fullback or halfback, you can bet he'd be scoring points for us week in, week out.

I'm all for giving Oates one year deals, absolutely. I want to see him stay a one club player. I'm just not sure who is coming through for us at wing behind him.
Thats so true, we aren't devoloping any wingers we just develop full backs and centres and put them on the wing

And then as they start looking good, lose them to another club.

You have quite a few centres on insane money, Holmes, Staggs, Manu etc

If I had to choose between 2 gun wingers with 2 average centres, compared to the other way around, I'm taking the gun wingers.

Center is such a difficult position to play these days in a lot of ways, but they dont really have the impact they did a few years ago and wingers have become very important to every team now.

Dobbo's big tip about three months ago was that Ponga would definitely be going to the Dolphins. He's been getting his chain yanked badly lately.

That said, they might struggle to squeeze Ponga and Munster under the cap. Ponga would make a prettier face for the club if he had to choose one. He could play in the halves as well. Signing both Munster and Walsh would make the Dolphins look like the cocaine club. Is that the direction Wayne wants to head?

Over on our side of the fence, I wonder about the relationship between Walsh and the Broncos. I know he has some good mates in the team - Haas and Carrigan, for example - but realistically could they all swallow their pride, kiss and make up? I have no idea.

If Walsh were to come back, where would that leave Selwyn? Maybe he would take Herbie's centre when he leaves. And if that were to happen, where would that leave Deine, Delouise and Brenko?

The Broncos are implying they're going to retain Cobbo and Farnworth. What's their track record in doing what they say?
Kevvie has stated in the past he'd always welcome Reece back.
Cobbo is yet to prove himself as a NRL fullback, Mariner is still a year or 2 away minimum and there is no certainty him and Mam are going to transition into NRL and be stars not right away anyway.
We need 2 wingers so does 2 of Mariner, Cobbo or Herbie become wingers.
do we not even bother about Reece and take a gamble hoping everyone stays and hope they become the players we want them to be?

I read that TMM has been training at fullback, which tells me immediately that Selwyn is a while away yet.

The way Cobbo barged back from the in goal v Chooks tells me he most certainly is a potential fb.

Potential doesn't do much for us right now though, does it?

We need someone this weekend and the following weeks after that as well.

At the moment all we have is Cobbo and TMM

Selwyn's not there yet, is what I was trying to say, there's definitely an above average fullback there but he's not ready to be that guy just yet.

It would be more relevant showing the average of these positions only including the salaries for players in the top 17 (full strength) of each club, and then separate the starting and bench forwards/utilities.

I'll take one of each

Broncos don't need no fancy new players:

I don’t believe this.. how could anybody in their right mind accept that a club which has finished last, 14th & is 2 from 6 this season would be content with the status quo? Let alone a club with as much heat on it as the Broncos.

this is a smokescreen imo to keep the media at bay (similar play to extending Kevin Walters) and keep the playing group from getting any more stressed.
