It's a nice story but can Hunt handle the week to week grind of being a hooker in the NRL? Being a part time hooker in SOO with Harry Grant is a bit different. I don't have any question marks over his defensive ability but I do remember him being quite erratic last time he was with us, so there's a bit of a concern there and whether that's been matured out of him... I dunno.

If Benny doesn't want to play hooker, how about something like...

1. Walsh
6. Hunt
7. Reynolds
9. Paix
14. Mam

Defense at hooker is a clear issue in this set-up, and I don't love that it plays Mam out of position (and may stunt his development), but it keeps him playing first grade and he could add some spark off the bench while providing cover for the halves.

Alternatively you could put Mam back to QCup to develop as a half full-time, and roll with the Walters/Paix combo for another year.

If he doesn’t want to play hooker, he’s surplus to needs. There’s also the question of captaincy, the same as Munster. Wayne could offer him that, inline with his status at the Dragons, and to be their marquee man. We can’t. It’s a demotion for him.

Yep, like it. It is harsh on Mam but Reynolds needs some other experienced help in the spine. Obviously, we'd prefer to have Hunt at 9 but regardless, a spine with Walsh, Mam and Paix in it is lacking in experience and this is one of the main issue with Niu there.

If he can handle what he’s been doing at the Dragons, carrying the entire team week in, week out, he can handle making a few more tackles in the middle with a massive amount of responsibility shared between Walsh, Mam and Reynolds.

I just don't see why he'd opt to come back and play a position he doesn't want to play for similar money. It's different in rep football because you're happy to be chosen and will play anywhere, but club is different.

I see him re-signing with the dragons. I just think because we're so desperate for a hooker we're trying to will this into existence, but I've been wrong plenty of times before.

Would be different if no one else was after him tho. If Drags are keen on him remaining at HB, why would he leave for similar money to play a position he doesn't want to play regularly? 100k ain't gonna make a big difference for him if he just earned 5mill over 5 years.

I think he’s a competitor. I’m not sure how excited he would be about the Dragons prospects over the next few years.
