Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Realistically, Grant would be the best player in the NRL to suit our needs. I know we have a potential gun coming thru, but this is a proven gun in the position we need most

This year will be the test for him,it is easy to play when you have B.smith around at club land or bhunt in origin but this year he is the man interested to see how he goes

Harry Grant publicly saying he loves the Broncos and would have signed in a heartbeat as a kid , but dad didn’t tell him about the offer…

odd timing, wouldn’t be happy hearing that if I was a Storm supporter

I don't like hearing that as a Broncos supporter

Interestingly, this would be about 9-10 years ago it happened right? So Bennett was at the club?

Let’s all be realistic here.. if Grant was with us as a 16yo there is no chance he would still be here now..
Roosters or Storm would have well and truely taken him from us by now.
Like the Walker story, its not a good look for the club (although sounds like this one was completely out of our hands) but its easy for current management to say ‘wasn’t under our watch’..

It's completely different to the Walker debacle.

There is literally nothing the club could have done different

I think what @the_next is saying is the club’s previous management probably would’ve found a way to take its eye off the ball with Grant and allow a sharper club to swoop in and get him

They didn't

Even the media vultures haven't been able to spin this as a negative against the club.

Maybe its time we looked at what we have and recruited accordingly. Plenty of left sided players around. You dont have to left footed or left handed to be effective on that side of the field.

Ball carry and step ...
Right handers carrying the ball in the left is not natural . Most right handers step better off their right foot .

You`re a soccer guy . You know left footers are gold .

Interesting. Three points in there:
1. Nice dig at Flegs about his demotion
2. Walsh looks like he will be back for round 2
3. Hetherington only a month away!

I've cleaned out the rumour tracker. There are no outstanding rumours. Some findings:

No one enhanced their reputation as a fortune teller this off season. Dobbo, as ever, was supremely confident, but wrong, about pretty much everything. Read was as reliable as flipping a coin. Crawley was indiscernible from gibberish. But the ten gallon bucket of shit goes to Peter Badel for his exclusive scoop on Herbie's "verbal agreement." Someone will be pissing themselves over that somewhere, but it won't be Pete.

Special merit award to the Mole for breaking the Karl Oloapu scandal and then not bothering to follow it up.

The "$3 ice cream" story was more important than getting to the bottom of salary cap investigation.

So now the narrative is that Brisbane lost this whiz kid because they didn't rate him.

The other narrative is that they stopped a fledgling upstart club from signing a player, so they were justified to pay overs for Herbie and Fleg.

Couldn’t be bothered pulling up the NRL version of this thread but Belly has apparently confirmed this will be his last year as coach.

Could it finally be the broncos turn to be the bride and not the bridesmaid and land him as a general manager

Dont really know why you are obsessed with being left handed or left footed to play on the left. You dont have to be to be effective on the left. Being a Football ( not soccer ) guy you can look at somebody like Dennis Irwin to disprove that. While it might be handier, its not a necessity. You just need to be comfortable in that position and you need to recruit the players that are.

I'm operating in the dark here but the narrative I've managed to assemble in my head is that of player managers playing their own games: with the clubs, with the media and with the players they represent.
