Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I don't feel sorry for the Dragons at all. We would havce kept Hunt if they hadn't blown us out of the water with a ridiculous offer. Also if he was stinking it up and still under contract the club would tap him on the shoulder so whats the difference when the club is stinking it up, why can't the player tap the club.

I think Wayne was on the mark a few weeks ago when questioned about bringing players in.

Why would you do that? It would be so unsettling, if we copped major injuries to key players in our spine I could understand but as it stands I can't think of anything more unsettling than toiling away most of the year and getting some great results only to be benched for some ring in whose team was never a show.

Literally only the last one of those mattered to Hunt

You sure about that? How many coaches have they been through? How many 'rebuilds'? I'm absolutely sure that getting rid of Hook was the final straw but considering Ryles got a look behind the curtain and noped the **** out...it doesn't take much to draw the conclusion that the place is an utter basket case.

The biggest one for me is when they actually sacked Hook. Didn't tell the players and made the players face their media commitments after it. The joint is fucking cooked.

I'm not a fan of it in the slightest, a contract is a contract but I'm not sure I can blame him too much really.

Wayne is full of shit:

All of that said, his manager or whatever has clearly been talking to other clubs. There's no way he offers to chip in to allow him to leave if he doesn't have something else lined up. At what point does the NRL step in and say "Hold up here fellas..."

Everyone thought we were a slim outside chance to lure Reynolds away from Sydney too.

We didn`t know that the Rabbits offered him a 1 year deal .
When he wanted 2 . That`s the factor that allowed Broncos to sign him .

I think we'd be stupid not to be having a go at Sam Walker. There's clearly issues with the Roosters and that door must be open a crack. Everyone thought we were a slim outside chance to lure Reynolds away from Sydney too.

He might not be interested or there may be underlying issues, but we should be trying anyway.

Not convinced he is or is even going to be a superstar, but he has shown potential, is a Brisbane junior, has family links to the club and is one of very few young legitimate 7s, which we desperately need with Reynolds coming to the end of his career.

I wouldn't be selling the farm for him, but he's exactly the type of young, future planning development piece we should be targetting to slot into the team when ARey moves on. We're building a young, dynamic spine and we badly need that last missing piece (assuming Mozer is as good as advertised)

If you buy Walker you need different game plan to what they have ATM with Reynolds .
Walker plays a very different game to Reynolds .

Are you Ben Hunt?

I'm not either, but I would hope (expect) that the first, second, and fourth points would have most logical folk looking for the exit ASAP.

Yeah I agree. It's all a complete rort, but the NRL double standards is ridiculous.

Joffa was just into a 3 year contract with the Tigers and they put him on a bus to a slightly-less-shit Western Sydney Suburb to play for the Eels within a week. Ben's request will result in literally the same outcome but it's the player calling for the change and not the club. Queue the outrage from the journalists that resemble stubbed toes (Buzz et.al).

The NRL is more keen to slut itself out to US gambling markets than tidy up administrative, contractual, and other legal matters.

I haven't seen any sort of long kicking game from him and some players never learn that shit, just look at Kodi Nikorima.
Exactly. Field position is so important in todays game and a good long kicking is essential.

The half that succeeds reynolds needs to have a really good kicking game and be able to steer the team around.

We have x-factor players. I dont think walker has the characteristics we need.

he didn't look for an exit asap. most of those things happen a long time before he wanted out.

the Brett finch letter in particular happened the week he re-signed (8 months ago)
I highly doubt any player gives 2 shits about a clubs sponsorship arrangements

the 300th dinner snub may have annoyed him (with an equally good chance that the media blew this out of proportion). he would have cared more about his family, friends and team mates being there that the clubs board.

Hook getting sacked definitely would have pissed him off though. and this is what sent him running for the exits.

If he didn't want to be there for the next two years ... he shouldn't have signed a bloody contract

This is the only real sticking point for me. I'm not sure what he expected to change if everything was so fucked up right? It screams of shit going on behind the scenes with other clubs since Hooks dismissal and I'm not a fan of that at all. Or maybe it was just one thing too many and he's gone "You know what...**** this shit." Everyone has their breaking point.

This week was probably the soonest an exit became possible. Maybe no clubs were sniffing around until now.

I agree that he would have cared about his family and friends being there more but there is a pretty clear message being sent from the no shows, not to mention the flagrant disrespect. It seems that the relationship was untenable then.

It's probably a mixture of all and Hook going was the final straw. Anyway, it's all speculation. My main point was that the Dragons should be shat on, and probably not Hunt.

We don't know that one of the reasons he re-signed was because the club assured him that Hook was safe, that he was being given time to build the club. Or even that the admin side of the club was becoming united and all working towards the common goals. None of those things have happened, in many ways it's regressed, the only one I can see that has put their hand up and gutsed it out is Hunt. And now he's looking around going "why the **** am I the only one putting in here where everyone else is just looking after their own arse".

I think there are divisions between the St George and Illawarra factions .

Mail says Roosters will release Suaalii. Manu to centre and Hunt to halves. Dragons club are sticking point at moment and are aware of Roosters. Deal not done, they staying firm to block him from Sydney clubs as condition of release.

Is this for next year or this year? I think Chooks makes most sense for Ben if he still wants to win. After that I don’t think the Gold Coast would be the worst retirement place but you obviously forgo the ambition of a premiership at the Titans.
