It's just a guess ... but if they essentially put Carrigan down the list to renew, then it sounds like what they are doing is putting the pieces in place first so they know exactly how much they can offer Patty (and Haas for that matter), in order to give them the most attractive offer possible.

now, if I was Ikin, I'd be getting in their ears reassuring them that they are both priority signings and the club is looking to put the best packages possible to them, which takes time (and other puzzle pieces to be locked down first)

My standards must be way higher than yours obviously. What he did was shocking behaviour and in all reality if we had any balls we would have sacked him with his history. Just because he probably he himself didnt have the balls to follow through with his threats doesnt make his behaviour any worse.

And no, i'm none of the things you said. I just treat people how i would want to be treated. Both Payne and his grubby family dont seem to live by that rule. Ask yourself why did they put his mummy behind bars as you put it. Might be due to her repeated violent behaviour and her flounting of the law that cost 3 innocent people their lives. If Payne has an issue with that then he has problems.

That's basically my point. I doubt the club has said to him, shut up and wait your turn, I'm sure they've explained to him why he isn't yet but they also see him as a very high priority.

He should be the number 1 priority really and like i said, they are lucky he is who he is. Plenty of other players in his position would probably kick up a stink if a bloke who was happy to derail our season was the top priority to get re-signed at the club over blokes who put the team first.

It could be me just over reading/analysing things but it looks like our recruitment are making an active effort to not have recruitment/retention things extending for long periods.

Paix and CJ were done quick and before the season. Even though flegler and herbie left, it was not like the first to fifita to the titans circus. Even the current fifita one wrapped up quickly Before the season really.

We may be going to players, this is what we are willing to pay and our terms, we won't get into bidding wars, we expect an answer by 'x' date.

Because like it or not, the players themselves care. Its not difficult to put these blokes off side if they are easily influenced by their managers, and plenty of them are. We have already seen it here with some of them. They arent all as smart as Carrigan.

Ikin has quit the recruitment and retention panel and his job title has changed from "head of football" to "head of football operations". Says he'll still make suggestions on player recruitment to the panel but isn't part of it.
