Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Unless Staggs transitions to the backrow? Anderson is a depth option at the Storm, he may be signed as a depth option for us anyway.

If the Grant Anderson signing is true it would be a superb get. He’s a footballer and that’s exactly what our team lacks.
He's a solid footballer, but he stands out when the rest of the team are doing their job and he can fit into the system.

It's definitely something Madge will be working towards, but we don't have much of a system at the moment and our recruiting hasn't exactly been focussed on picking up smart footy players.

He's great to have as a next man up, but hopefully we aren't banking on him being a starter... which has me worried, because what are we paying him to move from storm where he was already a next man up 🤔🤔

He's on 130k next year according to zero tackle.(who knows if true)
I'd say he's solid back up and if Cobbo doesn't step up this year and earn his 625k he will be gone. At the least it gives us leverage to get Selwynn at a price more beneficial for our cap and his actual value.
Red pen through Cobbos name at this point in time, it's all on him to shape up.

To be honest he's probably the Hoeter replacement, which would be fine... although Hoeter is on peanuts.

If Grant is on peanuts, which we're hoping he is then all good... he's a very solid player to be getting at that price... but what if we had to give him like $300k to get him out of the storm.

Wasn't this a guy that was playing Newcastle footy before last year and not really doing much.

I'm just hoping we haven't overpaid to get a guy that looked good in the storm system... and even if we did I'm hoping it's not a long contract.

2yr deal on less than $200k... nothing to complain about there ... if he's 3yr or on $300k+ with an expectation of being a starter... I'll start getting a little worried.

If he's starting for the Storm why would it be a problem if he's a starter for us?

He's not a starter in their full strength team... he filled in for Coates who spent a ton of time on the sideline i.e. next man up

Wingers: Coates and Warbrick
Centres: Meaney and Howarth

Anderson is a massive downgrade on Cobbo or Staggs, let's be real, both of them can break open a game themselves Anderson not capable of even near that on his best day, he would be backup as best, he does have ticker but I feel he would below all our options in outside back if he signed for us, a good backup option if the contract reflects that.

At this point I would not be surprised to hear both Cobbo and Staggs are on the outer. Maybe Madge just doesn't rate them relative to the other options we have at centre.

Athars, Mariner, Anderson, Hoeter, Karapani.....All of them could do a job in the centres and not cost half as much.

I get a sneaky suspicion madge may use karipani alot this year.

It's a vexing situation to be in for mine. Both Cobbo and Staggs have obvious positives that you could point to and say "this makes him worth the price tag"; Cobbo with his natural talent (when he turns up) and ability to cover fullback as well as centre and wing, and Staggs with his work ethic and passion for the club (i.e my profile gif, and in a very poor 2024, he was one of the few players that turned up every week and appeared to actually care about the result).

Unfortunately for us both of them find themselves in a position where other more desperate clubs would be willing to pay them top dollar, arguably far more than they are realistically worth it to us, for roles that we can cover with far cheaper options and probably don't lose much. I am really not concerned about our outside back depth at all, I doubt Madge is either, and considering that the two of them are taking up over a million dollars worth of cap per year between them.....

Many of us have speculated that the Hunt signing is going to come at the cost of something, and this could very well be it. Madge is exactly the type of coach to run with two "Jack Reed" types in the centres if it means strengthening the spine. Hunt achieves that whether Mam is available to play or not.

Personally I'd let cobbo and mam go and try and get herbie farnworth back for 2026. Surely we can find another 5/8 to run hit ups and throw intercept passes. Preferably one that isn't costing us 800k to build houses instead of play football.

See Frank Ponissi has signed till 29 with Storm. Read we had advertised for Football Manager, has anyone heard how that bits going. Peter Parr?

Played 12 games this year so he's solid at the least.
Agree the money has to be on the low end though 180 to 200k.
We need players like him to restore balance in the squad and free up some cash to get the backrow sorted out.
