Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Do you more about the DV case than what was speculated here ?
Didn`t make it to court if I recall .

He also had a hand injury that was strapped up like a mummy .

Does soldiering on at less than full fitness win brownie points with the club or does it mean that you sacrifice your livelyhood longer term ? And if you gained favour by playing busted , how much does that amount to when a new coaching staff is brought in ?

I think a lot of the lazy , disinterested talk comes from him playing when he shouldn`t have been on the field because of injuries .

If he does similar this year . Bye Selwyn .Thanks for the memories ...

But ,, I think he is better than that . And I don`t think Billy Slater would even pick him in his squad if he had the kind of couldn`t give a , attitude some folks here think he has .

The lazy talk comes from him actually being lazy and unprofessional. Lazy trainer and doesn't turn up on time and doesnt take his career as seriously as he should have. No point having ability without application.

I think katoni is actually looked at as a bit of a leader in the outside backs.

I don't think that would be lost on the coaching staff if they have to pick between the two.

The people calling him lazy .
Do they all go to watch training like you do ? Or are they basing it on seeing him play injured ?

If he turns up late to training or is lazy what were the consequences ?[ FFS Kevvie !! ]
Seems crazy to select guys who do that in the 1st place . Let alone pay them big money . I hold the coaches and management of the club responsible for standard setting .
From listening to Luke Keary on a pod cast talk about Madge I highly doubt he will get away with that from here on .

Not that it wasn’t mentioned here before but how about transitioning Staggs to 2nd row? That way, we can continue to keep both Staggs & Selwyn at our numbers.

Weren’t there rumours a few weeks ago of Staggs touring a Sydney club

Yes to the first question.

On Selwynn. he is still so young and I suspect immature and the upgrade was too high. V
Talent wise he is a keeper but cap constraints as we are all aware force decisions on a club.
Not everyone ,particularly younger guys can play with injury but it's a given in this comp that niggles /minor Injuries and off field distractions will happen. Part of accepting big $ is being able to turn up and put in.
Haas is a good example. What a pro.
How much weight that has when deciding between who to keep, move on or downgrade is anybodies guess but it would def come into it.
Bottom line is if you take the field you give your all which IMO Selwynn was not doing sometimes.
That's why guys like Anderson will be good . Does a job, doesn't lose you games and at the right $.
Obviously when working through all those squad decisions you have to put a line through the unavoidable things that happen during a year then work through the rest and hope you make more good calls than bad.
Time to stop paying on talent and start paying on results. Far to many of these young players have had the smoke blown up their ass by the fans and media and arent matching the pay cheques we are paying them for (ie Cobbo, Piakura, Mam)

I think a lot of it is Selwyn taking the easy way out by being "rested" during origin periods despite playing on the wing and the rest of the origin players backing up because the team needs it. Blind freddy can see Cobbos interest don't exactly scream football first everything else second.

Its not like its not been in the public domain about him turning up to training late regularly or publicly speaking out about the coach not being a good coach ( which regardless of what you think of Kevvie, thats unprofessional from Selwyn ).

Also, people do go and watch training or like me they know people who train and play with him. With the way social media is, its way easier for people to make comments about things like that after they see it. You have more scrutiny on you these days so if he's not putting in at a certain session, it gets noticed.

As for him playing injured, that makes you not able to play your natural game. If your hand is strapped and you cant catch the ball well or hold the ball, its going to effect you. Injury wont affect your effort or application, just your execution and capability to be at your best. I dont think its going to help though playing injured because it will affect aspects of your game. My opinion is though it doesnt affect effort.

I do think Cobbo is at a crossroads. I've seen him put in huge efforts and look a potentially elite player, and i've seen him put in some performances where he doesnt look bothered. I'm hoping he kicks on for his sake as well as ours.

I agree. I know he got hauled over the coals for it by Kevvie, but then i think he still picked him.

There’s been a lot of games where he won’t even take a run though.

I want to see how this season goes to judge on who is more important to keep when it comes to Staggs and Cobbo, Cobbo did fall off a cliff after origin this year but it was something we haven't seen thus far and we got a new coach as well now, I honestly thought the start of this year up to Game one of Origin Cobbo was at the peak of what we have seen from him at that stage and he could very easily kick on next season, he is a much more versatile player than Staggs as well, I'm pretty sure he has played the most positions of anyone in our team and not looked bad while doing all of them.

If it comes down to ability - Cobbo wins hands down but there are so many more factors involved. Talent wise, few possess what Selwyn has but it means little if the work ethic isn’t there.

Re Staggs .
Maybe a few of seasons ago .
But there is a difference between getting a run in a backline movement and taking hit ups .

The last cpl he has done a lot of hard carries .Even seen him offload on early tackles to create more metres . Some one got in his ear about involvement . A few seasons back he could catch a cold standing around waiting for the ball .

I have heard him in interviews talk about his awareness of needing to get involved . I think that also lifted his team mates respect for him as a leader .
