He's very Dave Taylor in that regard. Loves just playing footy, but doesnt do the other hard work to make the most of his talent.

I’ve heard he doesn’t even like rugby league. He’s just good at it. Doesn’t watch games, doesn’t care for it at all.

If that is the case, surely $300k for the club you love is an amazing deal. Like I said when Sandow signed with the Eels, to chase more money on a supposedly elite contract is just about ****ing fraud if you have zero intention of putting in the effort required.

He's probably been one of these players who was really good as a kid, and his talent got him through all the time but when it came to putting in the hard work when he hit the higher levels his enjoyment of playing just went out of the window because he didnt want to put the effort in.

Probably once people started expecting him to put the hard yards in, he realised at this stage of his career he doesnt want to do it.

Probably because he's clearly talented and the club probably hoped he would start to mature. He's a 23 year old rep footballer with over 80 first grade games under his belt in 5 years. I think if he doesnt get it now he's never going to.
 
Probably not the place but can someone tell me if Shibs has any deal oon the table already with us for more than this year?

I think it has been reported way back when he signed the dev deal that he also signed on for a Top 30 spot next year... so we've got him until at least the end of next year.

I daresay they will look to work on an extension to at least the end of 2027, but he could sign elsewhere as of November 1... I think he would probably be pretty keen to stick with Madge after he's given him a shot and he's got a starting spot at a strong club, which is probably a decent reason as to him getting an origin spot, so it would need to be a pretty decent deal to pry him away

We saved Shibasaki and brought him under Mage to be a origin player, he's not going anywhere.

I think it's long odds that he leaves, but he'll still want to be paid at some point... especially considering he's basically starting his career now at 26... and he's now an origin player.

I don't see a team coming in to offer him $500k or anything, but I don't think broncos will want to break the bank with him either... so I daresay we will offer him moderate contracts, but if someone comes in with something decent and more importantly long, then he could say thanks, but I need to look after myself... and I don't think the broncos will look to get into a bidding war... unless he is absolutely vital to Madge's system.

Madge turning a journeyman who was basically lost to the game into an origin player is a massive benefit to the broncos.

Players looking for development in their game will look at what Shiba has done and will think I'll take a paycut to go and learn under that.

Hell even Mariner who has more potential than Shiba, is looking at it like I'll do whatever he says, because it works.

We've been doing that over the last few years with guys like TMM, Sailor, etc. Madge has done it now with Shiba, and Gos to an extent... possibly Karapani (still early)... the key is finding a conveyor belt of those value guys to replace any of the other guys who get their payday.

It's not a bad thing to get guys on great value contracts and turn them into first graders... it brings other players to the club and makes them see that the system we have works.

Zero tackle only had this year. So I was now thinking clubs will strike. To think I didn't give a hoot when he signed and now I am worried he couldn't be here next year. Great job to the young man and to Madge.

Found the below tweet from earlier in the year, below is dated March 29, but it occurred in the preseason so he could play Round 1... can't see anything official from the broncos yet again... it's like the broncos just haven't been wanting to announce signings this year

I imagine we'll extend and/or promote him to top 30 this year if we haven't already.
