Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Sunday Mail reporting Walsh has "agreed to terms" but not "formally signed."

* four-year extension, until the end of 2029.
* $4.4 million - final season to reach $1.2m
* Highest-paid Bronco ever
* shaken hands, but not signed (he's on holidays)
* plan to publicly announce next month

I’m actually happy with those numbers compared to what I was fearing. Feels like this has been ‘agreed’ to for 6 months though.

The board will be happy, they know Reece on his own will keep the fans and corporates rocking up and paying the money even if we are playing like bustards on the field.

Don't need to competitive, just need the popular players to show a bit of flash every now and then and the money keeps rolling in.

Seems to me like the club and agent had agreed, based on Walsh's terms, but pending a signature. The agent leaked it to the press, Walsh got pedantic, and maybe a touch cocky in the backdrop of his Origin hype, and here we are back on the same page after his season fizzled.

It's really the same story as before. It would be interesting to know if it's the same deal or maybe even slightly less money.

Or more PO's added.

If he was delaying in the hope that his price goes up he may want options included to allow a salary review in a few years time

badels opinion piece highlights part of out problem we are paying big money in the wrong areas

I would say Walsh is the right area, and the right player, to spend big money on. But, as with Ezra, and the likes of Milford and Bird before them, there is always the risk they won't deliver as hoped. There is still time for Ezra.

While true, I’m pretty sure most pundits would agree that fullback is in the vicinity of the right area to pay big money.

i mean the gist of his opinion piece is why we should make a play at walker,totally agree with the walsh signing maybe 100-200k a bit more than id like a year

If true, it's fair. ATM he's the only genuine attacking threat we have. Hopefully Mam has think about his game and steps up to be the second option.

I can't see us holding onto Cobbo for a number of reasons. Hopefully we get some ticker into the backs. Kick returns killed us this year.

And with Walsh being a big footy head, he would only want to better his game and become the best player he can be.
I don't see the likes of Milford or Bird sitting down watching every game every weekend trying to pick teams apart.

If the figures in the deal are true, I think that's a good price for him, if he went to the open market his price would go higher.

You need big name players to attract good depth to the club. If he is in principle signed, then we have some decent ones in Walsh, Mam, Carrigan and Haas. Where our R&R have struggled even more than this in recent times is getting the below superstar signings right.

He is not the only genuine attacking threat, let’s be honest we still have one of the most lethal back line and halves pairing in the competition. We just need to buckle down in pre season and get back to where we were. Whether it gets ridding of kevvie or getting him more support or closing off the stupid public training sessions. We are dangerous we just need to find that ticker.

What sort of % tax do these superstar kids have to pay ?

eg out of 1 million a year how much does Albo get . 500 K or more ?

Break down - 20 K per week on the contract . Subtract the tax and it`s 10 K per week .
500K take home pay . Still a very handsome sum . But not the amounts we see quoted in contracts .

Then ,are management fees tax deductable ? Coz they gonna want at least 10 % .

The problem for the club is no one is a "below superstar" at the club with the media hype they get. Our reserve graders have more followers than regular 1st graders at most clubs. And unfortunately they believe the hype.

I've wondered for a long time whether the R and R team are doing any psych assessments in their ability to handle pressure and even fame/hype. Seems we have a group of players that believe the hype.

Just like all wealthy PAYG tax payers they get smashed on tax

There are some ways to reduce it but none are particularly effective if you want to make use of the money now

Yeah management fees are tax deductible
