Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Having a look through Madge's team selections over the years it seems he likes big forward packs.

Souths notoriously ran over the top of teams in 2014 via the Burgess brothers and Tigers operated with a third prop at lock... however both those periods were before Vlando ball or when the change happened.

For the kiwis last year he had JFH and Leota starting props with Tapine at lock and a bench of Neame, NAS and Leo Thompson... so again going with a big forward pack, but that may have been due to limitations on available selections.

This finally changed for the blues this year where his lock was McInness initially, before changing to Cam Murray for games 2 & 3 when he became available and using Connor Watson off the bench.

It would be a big call to move Patty out of lock and go with Kobe, but Kobe is not the same type of lock as Patty, Cam Murray and even Connor Watson... which leaves Kobe effectively in the prop rotation. I think there is still value in Kobe especially if Madge's strategy remains that rolling through the middle and quick ptb's.
I don't think we've seen what type of player Kobe actually is, I do think theres more to his game then being a small prop that does one out runs.
Under Kev I think he was given the role that he played.
It's going to be interesting to see if some of these guys are going to be different next season under Madge with the type of players they are. We really don't know what Kev was instructing these guys to do. Look at Payne in origin this year for example.. he was a different player

This guy would have been handy for us

Have to wonder what happens to Billy. It’s gonna be real awkward for him that’s for sure. A 2 year extension was a master stroke from us.
hopefully he has one of those get out clauses if the coach gets sacked.

I think a staple of Kevvie's coach was ball playing between the middles and Kobe has probably done it the least across pretty much all of them... except for maybe Jensen?

Patty's ball playing has gone way up
Payne gets involved in starting backline movements and basically plays lock when Patty is off the field
Palasia's ball playing improved and he was our backup lock in 2023
Flegler was involved in some ball playing as a prop

Kevvie started it with Patty improving and Briers really emphasised the forwards supporting each other through the middle and the little tip ons.

Kobe may have been a 6 or something and played some dummy half in the juniors, but as he's gone through the grades he's been moved further and further away from ball playing.

I'm also happy to hear Paix is welcomed to. I think he and Mozer have potential to be a really good, fast tag team.
I think Smoothy might be a bigger chance than Paix... unless Madge can get Paix playing some lock during games.

Madge doesn't seem to pick a specialist hooker as his utility on the bench... to me Smoothy looked really comfortable ball playing at lock and may be easier to transition into that type of player than Paix or Billy.

If Paix can't play much lock, then he probably offers the least flexibility at the position... Billy can play halves and I would be interested in seeing if he can play some lock purely as a ball player like dogs have been using Hayward, Salmon, etc.

This guy has been speaking shit all year and none of it has been right.

But I wonder how many people would be on the sack Madge train if he does decide to keep Baker.

Looks like a perfect post from a bot to stir up Broncos fans.

Thank you mate, much appreciated. We all love our rugba leeg, so no need to act like pricks on one another's forum eh. Should be a very interesting pre-season ahead for both our teams!
Really agree with the others .. so good to have such a valuable new addition to BHQ. Enjoy reading all your stuff!

After watching the last few games, Braydon Trindall definitely would be a good replacement for Reynolds. He's got good skills for a half, especially kicking game. Trindall would be a very handy halfback and wouldn't cost overs like others would.

Well hopefully once Maguire has worked out who he wants to partner Mozer the club can somehow get one of Walters/Smoothy/Paix off the books and one of Madden/Rogers. Don't mind who, they are all about the same level of ordinariness. That's where our cap is unbalanced.

If we could release Walters, Smoothy and Paix.. Then sign Matt Parcell on a 2 year deal.. I'd be happy with that

9. Parcell

14. Mozer

Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.

So they have tino, mofo, rcg, palasia, Clark, joliffe, and liu in the middle?

Wouldn't mind seeing if palasia or joliffe would be interested in coming across. Some experienced but not old depth.

Clark for one is off to the Wahs.
