People weren't keen on Shiba either. Madge gets the best out of blokes who are willing to try, it looks like it's the 'stars' that drift in and out of games that he has trouble getting through to (not sure which coach could, however)

Yeah, I get that feeling too... all his good try hauls have been just on a wing that anyone could have scored when Storm have been cruising. He's been a game away from having no deal twice now (he even said that himself this week).
I just dont get it. It's not even a position we desperately need if it's to be a reserve either.
Surely you sling that cash to a young English backrower you can find like the Milk have with Matty Nicholson...
But that makes too much sense for our club.
The only way I'd get properly behind it is if we were ditching Cobbo/Staggs to really invest in our backrow.

Paix was great to start the year and has gone to shit only recently. Kobe is garbage, fully agree there.

The Paix stuff really highlights the issue with so much of our squad, not enough effort or desire to fight long term.
Gets all the praise, starts the season well at 9, all good.
Bad game, game and a half which coincided with a good game or 2 from Billy, pressure starts to build and his game goes back to rubbish. Billy now overtakes him in the starting side and he instead of showing up, winning his spot back, he's regressed even further.
It's a huge problem in our squad.

Fifita is the archetype of the type of player we need to get away from.
The worst recruitment call the club made over this period has been letting Capewell go. I’d swap almost anyone in our team for Capewell on 400k a year

Should seriously ask the Wahs if they want a straight swap for Capewell. Any one of Cobbo, Staggs, Riki or Walters. Actually Riki and Walters can be a 2 for 1 deal.

Thought I had entered some kind of parrelel forum where we didn't know how he clocks off when he signs multi year deals for big $$.
I absolutely think Madge is alluding to who he wants to keep when he says I've learned a lot.
Personally I think Piakura JHunt Staggs Baker Paix Jensen Billy Madden Rodgers and Hetherington are all in the firing line.
Smoothy already gone and Giz on notice.
Staggs is decent but a bloke on 700k has to give more. We get nothing from him except close to the line.
He won't hit a gap, can't pass or set up his winger, gives very little coming out of our end.
Time to move on unless he's happy to take 400k.
Piakura has only played 40 odd games so maybe he can improve but he's just not showing enough IMO.
Our hooking stocks are ok with Mozer Hunt Bukowski brush the rest when we can
Madden needs to move for his own sake. Probably be ok with keeping him for a couple more years though.

I would take David Fifita is a heart beat if he's price is slashed. We need 2nd rowers especially representative level.

I think we need them gone for Reyno. Unless we can move on Madden, and Paix for him? Filling the squad would be hard.

The team currently have too many players who live off their hype and potential.
NOT ENOUGH TOUGH WORKERS.
Fifita has survived on his reputation and irregular highlight real. Yes, he can be amazing in attack and can be good for players around him, but at what cost??
Playing as a team is all about dependability and trust for teammates, both sides of the field. Without this trust, players will run out of the line and will not play to instructions or "look out for each other".
IF Fifita could fit into our structures
IF he came at about $400k a year
IF he swallowed his pride and made team first decisions
IF he was potentially willing to go Front Row
IF the team can trust him again
IF he showed he could work hard both offence and defence
and
IF he stays away from bad influences, he could be an option.
We are changing quite a few areas of the team over the next 6-12 months, so COULD be an option - not convinced, but maybe
