Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

The Qcup regulars will be able to answer better than me, but I'd say he looks to have an elite short kicking game and his 2024 qcup to win halfback of the year was apparently pretty dominant with him being the stand-up choice to win it.

So I think he's got the fundamental skills as a halfback.

I think his issue at cows was defence (he's got a slight build) and his long kicking may not be as long as you'd like (from memory but haven't seen enough of his game to remember).

He was the front runner at cows all through the preseason, but they said he could go I think after Dearden played well in origin?

He was dropped earlier than that to bring Clifford in, but after Dearden played 7 at origin they tried Dearden 7 with Purdue at 6... I think Purdue in the halves failed for the most part and they went back to Cliff... but ultimately it seems like those 3 were the ones selected as their halves moving forward... and Duffy was told he can look elsewhere, mostly because Dearden is earmarked as their 7 moving forward.

In terms of defence and long kicking I feel like both of those things get better over time as you do more preseasons and do more weights, more experience, etc.

Reyno isn't exactly built or putting shots on, but his tackle efficiency is like 90% over the course of his career... so Duffy will have a great mentor to learn from if defence and long kicking are his biggest things to fix

I always think the best kickers are goal kickers and Duffy is a very good goal kicker. He kicks 40/20's and goal kicks for Pride. He's been given the job at Townsville and Pride even when he was a rookie. Which shows a bit of faith.

Kicking is difficult to back up with stats.

23- 20 games, av 209m (4180m)
24-23 games, av 238m (5255m)
25-8 games, av 349m (2799m)

Forced dropouts

23-8
24-10
25- 3

192 goals in 50 games.

I don't have any concerns about his defence at Cup anyway, he is gutsy and gets in there. He will have games where he misses four, but every half does.

Yeah kicking can differ based on coaching as well.

A coach probably isnt giving a rookie free reign with the kicking and instead is looking for them to kick to the 10m x 10m box.

I wasn't paying enough attention when Duffy was in NRL to how good he was with hang time and how close he was landing to the goal line... my general thought after his games is that they were pretty stock standard, but I wasn't really paying attention because he wasn't on my radar.

Someone like Bhunt in his first stint with broncos was putting up the box kicks but they were landing 15-20m from the goal line and makes it extremely hard to win field position. They were predictable and ineffective.

His kicking improved almost instantly at dargs though... so may have been coaching holding him back at his first broncos stint ie. Griffinball.

If you watch his GF when he took over at 7, his kicking was much better at trapping them inside the 10m.

It's what Reyno is elite at and bigger kickers can put more hang time under it for the chase to get their before they can run.

Those would be the big things Im looking for in my 7's kicking game.

Coby has the big boot to begin with, but Milf was doing a fair bit of kicking so it's hard to tell how good / bad he was with the box kicking.

Takitau Mapapalangi put forward by Bears for train and trial. He puts the fear of God into players. Came off the bench the whole year for Bears and complemented the wild Koellner and De Luis.

Come on for 20 minutes, score a try and hurt guys. I am off to the beach Burty done my bit.

A Madge pre-season will either break him or make him by the sounds of that.

Article in the Tele this evening saying Broncos may be going after Jonah Pezet to replace Reyno and Hunt for 2027. Just whispers at this stage apparently, but would make sense. What a combo that would be - Walsh, Mam and Pezet.

Reyno and Hunt's money combined, linking up with Walsh, plus the opportunity to be starting half for the Premiers. Would be a pretty tempting carrot to dangle in front of him, even if he would get more money at one of the bottom teams.
He's off contract now and able to move for 2026... so Bhunt and Reyno's money is still tied up with them

I'd love to sign Pezet he's a gun ... but might be too many cooks.

any half that we sign will need to be prepared to take a step back and not be the main guy. our half will need to organise, have a decent kicking game and get the ball to Walsh quickly when he sees something.

I still think we are 1 experienced middle, and another back up fb short in our squad.

2nd row isnt looking too bad now. Riki and piakura, with aublix bench/1st drop by the looks of it. Gos and hunt arent great but they can certainly do a job for a few rounds. And jamal shiba on a train and trial by the sounds of it, with horner and bryce coming through as possibilities in the future.

If we can find another middle who can play 2nd row that would be ideal, but we do need a middle. Talty has never played a full season of nrl, te kura looks injury prone, semu hasn't grabbed his chance yet by the sounds of it. With smoothy, hethrington and (please god) baker gone we lose a fair bit of middle cover.

And then fb cover is perham coming off an acl injury, and??? Our outside backs cover is fantastic, but fb not so much. I do wonder if staggs might be given a chance to cover there as well.

I have a subscription to them and haven’t seen any articles linking him to the Broncos. Got a link for this article because I can’t find it.

Because Black has alot more training to do then just throwing him into the deep end.
By Rd 1 2027 he'll have two more Madge preseasons and 20-ish Cup games in him, maybe a few NRL games too. We'll likely know before then whether he's our replacement for Reyno, or our replacement for Madden
