Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Would have been interesting to see if an uninjured Perham would have played fullback ahead of Cobbo last year.

I've only ever seen Anderson on the wing. Did he play FB at QCup?
Feel like he dropped into fullback a few times for the storm... may have been midgame to cover injuries or HIA's... maybe during 2024 season when he was having a breakout year.

I don't think he's electric back there or anything, he's just solid, and his time on the wing showed some footy smarts.

Jesse played fullback against manly last year and ran for like 200-300m or something, but was pretty non-existent in the backline movements... I'd say Anderson can do that role, but able to fill in better on the backline plays.

Hayze Perham will be our number 2 heading into the season, but it's more about who's going to be in the 17 (19??) most weeks that fills in for injuries, etc.

Not sure we have someone that can play fullback if Walsh is off midgame... Staggs dropped back there at one point in the backend of the year, but not sure that works longer term.

Staggs or Mariner for mine. Would probably come down to who's on our bench... if we have a Tawha in the 17 who can play centre, I'd move Staggs. If Walsh limps off and BTK comes on, slide everyone on the right along and put Mariner back there.

I think Mariner is probably the one, mostly because I'm not sure Staggs is built for that kind of endurance.

My only concern with Mariner (or even Karapani) is that they are still pretty new to wing play (both came through as centres), so asking Mariner to learn or adjust to fullback on top of that might be asking too much of him.

It would all kind of resolve itself if they move to the 6 man bench, because we would just carry either Perham or Anderson and they sub on

With the extra 2 on the bench .
How long before they have to rotate out and play some football rather than being spectators ?

I think under the current rules players that are in the 17, but play less than like 10-15 mins are allowed to back up in reserve grade.

The away games would be the killer, but the two that don't play each week would mostly be able to back up for their Qcup team... same day games or their Qcup team playing before first grade being an issue (want to avoid injuries).

You'd probably want to rotate between Jesse, Anderson and Perham for away games so they're not constantly missing Qcup games.

I'd imagine the two standby players each week would be an outside back (one of the 3 above) and a half (Duffy likely the preferred)... carrying the same half each week probably starts to hinder their development if they're taken to every away game, but you wouldn't necessarily want to put a lesser half in there if they do happen to be called on.

Yep it`s complicated .
Andy Bichel syndrome .

Would this change things from the current system? We travel with a squad of 22ish, 17 guys get game time, one sits in the 18 and is virtually never activated, and the other 4 watch the game from the sidelines. From what I can tell it's pretty rare that a Mozer, Hoeter etc would travel to Sydney for a Saturday night Broncos game, then make it back to play a Sunday afternoon QCup game in SEQ. I'd imagine in an extended bench scenario we'd have the same 22 guys on the plane, and still a low chance of them making QCup games.

I thought it was only the 18 that travelled along with the 19th in case there's a last minute change before the 1hr formal list?

Last year we had extended squads travelling during the finals, but I think they had finished their footy if they weren't making finals, etc.

Maybe the suspended guys travel as well, but I wouldve thought the fit guys stay at home to play qcup

but now you would definitely travel with 20-22 minimum wouldn't you?
Since its a '19 man' playing squad on game night.

Yeah I was only thinking about this today with the preseason starting up.

Teams should have to finalise their team 24hr earlier otherwise they'll be travelling with 20+ each week... reserve grade will be thrown way way out of whack

Anderson will be our 18th man i'd imagine. If walsh gets hurt he would go fullback.

This year we lose Hunt, Reynolds, Haas. and probably Shibasaki too. We get Pezet but will need a couple of top tier players to come into the squad above what we currently have.

I might be in the minority here but I actually think this will work in our favour.

We now have HUGE money to get a prop who can give walsh some space (flegler if he comes back ok would be a dream, Lindsay collins?) AND a gun 2nd rower AND a good back up fb or an outside back on the market PLUS we can keep whoever we want (i thought we would be losing 2-3 of shiba, mariner, mozer or karipani over the next year or 2).

Plus we have more motivation for this year.

And bennett, what a bitter old flog he is hahaha. And wtf is haas thinking going there. His ego might have got dented with walsh getting all the credit for the premiership. YOU CANT WIN A PREMIERSHIP WITHOUT A SPINE, and souffs ain't got shit compared ti ours, cody walker is about to retire as well lol. This will dent his legacy becuase Lazarus went to clubs with spines in them, he wasn't stupid.
