Broncos sign Jesse Arthars

I always thought Arthars had a bit about him whenever I watched the Titans. His size seemed to be the only thing holding him back.

A really good signing if FB is truly his best position. The CNK comparisons are apt (CNK getting no game time at a basketcase club transforms into one of the form FBs in the comp when given a go in a side on the up).

Seibold and the board appear frugal with the handling of the money at the moment. This makes me feel as though we have absolutely no need to spend up on any position. Like Melbourne has done in the past so too should we do now.

They did start with some strong names, a giant name in one case but we aren't beginning and don't need that part. We already have a strong core in the forwards.

The first gen Melbourne was a blended pro and good amateur set up but Bellamy's side is different. It's a developed team with a robotic precision in every position. Staff change but moulds only need occasional reshaping and honing. I'm guessing Seibold is working to develop the Melbourne Mould.

This the sort of signing that suports the notion that Seibold may be quieting building and confident in at least one area. Now he seeks to drench his attack with youthful quality and potential. I would think he'd see Turpin as the future fulltime hooker(Cook Mould) and plenty from which to choose from for the other moulds or positions if you like.

If Seibold was chasing big names I'd be concerned but he appears to be certain the Broncos are going to be a huge force soon.

Block him if it's upsetting you so much and that way every thread will be just the way you like it.
It doesn't upset me at all lol I enjoy calling him out on his bs. I just think it's ridiculous that his bs can't be called out for what it is.: Repetitive and boring with no constructive input and an obviously distorted view to suit his agenda.. (end of paragraph)...

This is a response btw, I do not want to comment further on the topic and turn this thread to shit unless its on topic

Seibold still needs a statement signing for next year imo. Cant just keep shedding talented players without at least getting someone out of it. Whether its someone like George Burgess I don't care, he needs to make a significant signing going into next year. We are still weak in a few areas as compared to a lot of other clubs.

Did seibold coach Tino when he was @ the storm.

I'm super excited to see this signing.

He is a good young kid who can cover all positions across our backline but his best position is fullback (which he was highly unlikely to play at the titans due to guys like Brimson and Gordon being above him in the pecking order)

@broncsgoat, Yes his stats on paper don't look amazing this year but if you've also watched any of his first grade games, you'd have seen that his first game was off the bench and he has been predominantly swapping between centre and the wing. He has also had numerous tries disallowed so far to either shepherds or forward passes (Copley and Roberts, enough said) and that the Titans have hardly been the attacking beasts this year. He has 2 line breaks (both against us while running at Jimmy Roberts), has a couple of try assists, makes plenty of tackles per game with good efficiency (when at centre) and averages 3 tackle busts a game. Hardly see how this is a dud signing?

The question I ask is who would you drop?

For me it is Macca Shiba Isaako and Boyd

Shiba get replaced by Bird
Isaako gets replaced by Coates or Farnworth
Macca gets replaced by Turpin and Seggy.
Boyd gets replaced by Milford
Milford gets replaced by Sos, or Paix

We have a lot of talent we just need them fit, actually turning up for the coach and to shed the dregs.

You say bring in George Burgess but who would you drop for Burgess in a fully fit team?

Offa? TpJ? Lodge? Haas? Flegler?

The only spot I could argue we are lacking is either a new fullback or a new half depending on where you play Milf. Maloney could be great in halves. Next to Deardon with Milf at the back.

I’m not having a go at you, im asking myself these same questions. Do we really need a big name signing? Especially someone as inconsistent as Burges.

He side steps Staggs and offloads for the try.

It was Round 13 this year when the Titans beat us.

Maybe that’s when Seibold took notice.

George Burgess would be the worst possible signing.

Broncos don’t need to recruit any big names.. WE ARE PRODUCING THEM. It’s cheaper and better for the culture.

I think Seibold is doing well for what he has had to deal with.

God I love Turpin. Build him a statue already .

I should have isolated what I agreed with, namely is a big name now needed. We're strong now. A longterm fullback will identify himself over the next 18 months. That will take care of itself. The same applies in the centres. We'll simply keep trying combinations until a balance is found, such is the quality available.

The secret will be Seibold's design. He may even accommodate Oates and move him. I think we've got all the positions covered presently and after Boyd,Glenn,Macca and Gillett, the future.

Yeah for sure. I’m not saying any of my suggestions were the obvious choice. The other all point is that I think we have most of the pieces, it’s just about getting them to line up right.

I think Kennedy, Arthars and even Tualau (not as sure with this last one) are better options than Fensom, Fai and Tagatese in and around the squad. I have said previously that we needed an experienced forward but George Burgess is a bit of a loose Cannon and wouldn't add a great deal to the team. That last win shows we have a great nucleus of players and a young player with NRL experience, junior rep and the ability to cover all backline positions (including the problematic fullback) sounds like a good signing to me.

Your right about Burgess I would pass on him too.
We need someone like graham or Klemmer but we have missed that boat when they left their previous clubs.
I don’t think there is anyone suitable available for next year. We’ll probably just have to make do with what we’ve got at the moment.

I'm happy with the approach they are taking at the moment.

It's somewhat like they're standing back looking internally at who in the group is worth persevering with and would only go for a big signing if the need warrants it.

Who was the last big recruit to Melbourne??

I can't even think of anyone they've actively chased for big coin for probably 15+ years!!

Rather they look to build players from the ground up and instill the culture into them from a young age.
