Broncos stand down McCullough and Hunt

On a scale of 1 to 10 of alcohol related incidents this is around a 0. But repeat offences would make it worse.

This is their first "incident" at the club I believe, and they've been here for a while now.

Individually, you are right. If it was a one off, you are right.

But as you disclaimed, repeat offences make the severity somewhat higher, so McCullough should be due for a tap on the shoulder and some serious career guidance in the next incident or two.

They should be getting some guidance after the first incident. Who knows what trouble they might get into next time.

Hopefully that guidance is not from Langer.

no doubt, but with such a young squad we must bring down the hammer otherwise it could get out of hand... I have heard of plenty of times Macca is out and about on the piss.

^^^ This. And that's my point about it being a wake up call. He needs to have the riot act read to him. He needs to snap this out of his attitude now, before it's his 2nd, 3rd, minor incident or worse...his first major incident.

I've seen him out on the piss a few times too, but fair dinkum are some people in this thread suggesting he should be punished for that??? Seriously?? He hasnt been arrested for anything before this. Whether or not it's because he's been lucky enough not to have been caught playing up will remain a question which is why this current punishment is sufficient and hopefully he treats it as a wake-up call as a few have said.

^^^ This.

He didn't hurt anyone. He didn't hurt himself. He acted like a dick. And hopefully being stood down when he's just getting back to form is a jolt to him.

when I say HAMMER I don't mean massive fines or months suspension. I mean the riot act and for the club to keep a close eye on him. I was out of line when I said his Captaincy credentials should be questioned.

Fair enough. Though you weren't totally out of line.

I think if it came down to a decision between him and another player for captaincy, and the other player is a cleanskin off field, it would count against him.

Were they actually arrested? The Courier mail says that they were charged. To be charged you have to be arrested. They must have done something a little more then just trying to get into a pub after being told to leave another pub. If that is all they did then its pretty poor that they were arrested. Any normal person and by normal i mean not a nrl/afl/rugby player would have been told to piss off.

Very unfortunate but u have to be careful in such a small city such as this. Any indiscretion will be detected and then inflated madly thru the media. The Broncos won't miss them anyways, Hunt has been out most of the year and I look forward to watching a game without the "Macca Factor". They could have John Te Reo starting and they would still account for the woeful Bunnies. Look forward to seeing Baptiste again though.

It's be some irony if Te Reo got a call up to first grade because 2 blokes got stood down for drunken behaviour!

Maybe the cop wanted a medal for charging/arresting a public profile. (A feather in his cap)

Cop: ZOMG: I charged/arrested footy players

Um no.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the hooker position now.
As for captaincy he won't be in contention for at least the next 5 years.
Parker first, then Thaiday, then Glenn, then who ever is next.

I think action taken by the club is the correct decision and hopefully as others have said it's a wake up call so the don't get into any further "trouble" in the future. However I do LOL at Hunt being 'stood down' as my mail is he wasn't going to be ready to play NRL this week anyway. But I guess it's a symbolic punishment in his case. Interesting Reed didn't get into any trouble - good to see he was able to have a quiet drink with his makes and not take it far enough to get into any issues, hope he keeps that up.

The more I read the more it seems like an officer trying to get a notch on their belt. The players were refused entry to the Stocky and the Vic before wandering down to Fridays were they were immediately fined for attempting entry.

Seems a bit rough. Reading between the lines it seems as though they were moved on by the police, maybe told to go home. Thinking the clubs were far enough away they treked down to Fridays only to find an overzealous cop or had followed them.
