Broncos stand down McCullough and Hunt

The more I read the more it seems like an officer trying to get a notch on their belt. The players were refused entry to the Stocky and the Vic before wandering down to Fridays were they were immediately fined for attempting entry.

Seems a bit rough. Reading between the lines it seems as though they were moved on by the police, maybe told to go home. Thinking the clubs were far enough away they treked down to Fridays only to find an overzealous cop or had followed them.

What? If they have been given a move on order then there's the likely chance that they would have been asked to leave the area altogether.

Let's be frank - the cops wouldn't even know who these nuffies are.

Might wanna do a bit of geographical Brisbane research champ [icon_wink

Do you seriously think the cops don't have better things to do than follow a couple of drunk footy players from club to club? I think it's more like the full story isn't being told and they did or tried to do something that has not been reported - something still relatively minor but more substantial than just being refused entry to a club or two, in order to be hit with a Public Nusiance charge. Even if it was an over-zealous cop, his superiors would have basically just thrown it out and they wouldn't have been charged - being arrested does not necessarily equate to being charged. They would need to be arrested, taken back to the lock-up, the arresting officer's report assessed by at least one superior and then charged (or released without charge).

All it would take is a bit of an argument with a bouncer for police to have a word. There are always multiple paddy wagons parked at the Vic and Stocky intersection.

They weren't charged with public nuisance, nor were they arrested. They were simply fined; given an on the spot ticket. The courts became so clogged up with PN's they changed the legislation whereby it can now hinge soley on the disgression of the on scene officer. There would certainly have been no process for a superior screen it. It's much easier to be hit with a public nuisance than it once was. I'd go as far as to liken it to a minor-mid range traffic offence.

It's quite odd that both incidents have taken place streets away from each other. That would suggest that the cops in fact do not have anything better to do then follow a couple of drunk footy players around. Just ask Jonathon Thurston ;)

it doesnt take much at all to get a fine for drunken nuisance, depends how the cops are feeling on the night. you can yell a few rude words across a street and be written a ticket.

theres nothing in this folks. dropped for one game is the right decision and hopefully a few words in their ears from teh right people up top.

all that matters is they (and some of their young teammates) take it all onboard/learn from it

Im a Police Officer and I dont even work in QLD and I know who they are so im guessing a Brisbane Officer would know who they are or at least were told by somebody before handing out the infringement notice who Hunt and McCollough are. Im going for the notch in the belt option. Probally wanted to go to a BBQ the next day and have a story to tell.

By the way Courier Mail is wrong. You dont get charged with an offence unless your arrested.

Lol, got wind of this on Sunday morning, idiots but I think we've all done the same thing before.

Bit of a generalisation saying all. I'd say most haven't if anything.

[icon_lol1. don't mean getting getting picked up by the cops, but having a big night out... guilty.

Haha fair enough. I occasionally get into trouble when I go out but I know my limits.
I don't really see what they did as something to go on about, as long as it's not repeated again... and again then big deal.

I care more about footy than off field so minor indiscretions such as this do not bother me in the least.

Guilty too.

Te'o was stood down a couple of years ago and look at what he's gone on to do since then. Hopefully Macca completely dominates in his QCup game and hopefully Hunt gets a go at halfback for once. Could be a big positive to come out of this incident.

Brisbane is the capital of Rugby League in the country - of course the cops knew they were NRL players.

Funny turn of events. McCullough & Hunt will go up against each other on Sunday at Bishop Park. McCullough for Norths & Hunt for Central. Hunt has been named on the bench.

Seems like the were fined for being drunk in a public place. (wow the crime of the century)

the bail is shit house on that, i had to pay $5 the last time i got done for it.

They usually just take whatever you have in your wallet.
