NEWS Broncos star’s horrific fall from grace

Me too but I was thinking in terms of his career.
He is unlikely to see out that time and will never be a head coach in the nrl again.

Unless his rebuild works and he'll be locked in for a long time. Wouldn't be betting on that though unfortunately.

No if anything the reverse is more likely.
He is having to throw too many rookies in before they are ready and they are at risk of being burned.
Looks like a lot of dark days ahead.

It’s because he’ll do that and put in next to no effort when we actually need him to.

Agreed as far as actually stopping tries like a fullback ought to, but he has also been let down by his team mates as well constantly this year. Poor effort across the park.

With Boyd though, I think he is one of the bitter Bennett brigade at the club.

Milford's injury and Issako's personal issues have saved Boyd - no doubt.

Milford could be out for the season - or back in two weeks. If out for the season, then Boyd will continue playing, and Brisbane will be heading for a wooden spoon.

Even if Issako returns, his form has been almost as bad as Boyd, so not really an option for fullback either.

However, if Seibold is coaching for the future, and not just this year, he should blood new players because the season is lost anyway.

Look its not just the club the fans or the NRL that has to treat Boyd with respect it's himself. He has to be honest with himself as its obvious that he is gun shy. He looks like a guy with zero belief in his body, his first thought is preservation. I feel his voice of support for his body is hollow or doesn't cross over to the field. He is fighting a mental battle that is not going to get better out on a battlefield.

He made me so angry on the weekend when he surrendered and took to the turf instead of taking contact. The crowd chanting Newcastle over and over. Really demoralizing to see and our captain chose to lie down.

I said some pretty harsh stuff after that. Even said I hate him for it. Regrettably. But its hard to see and its hard to take as a proud fan.

Boyd mate you need to look after yourself. Maybe you feel going out like this is a let down, but its not. Its actually respectable and commendable. You have done it all in the game, you don't need to do anymore. Give yourself a break you actually deserve one.

Unless his rebuild works and he'll be locked in for a long time. Wouldn't be betting on that though unfortunately.

Darius Boyd reportedly on brink of NRL sack as Broncos form struggles deepen
00:36
Broncos captain Darius Boyd is reportedly on the brink of being dropped, with NRL legends saying his form has vanished.

Boyd, 32 this month, is contracted to Brisbane for the next two seasons on a reported $800,000 per year. As it stands, the Queensland great may be lucky to survive this season.

The former Test and Origin star was switched from fullback to five-eighth for Saturday’s loss to Newcastle and had another poor game, highlighted by an awful defensive miss on Jesse Ramien in the build-up to a try.

In another bizarre moment, Boyd tried to catch a kick-off that was clearly going dead, taking it and falling over the dead-ball line to needlessly concede a drop-out.

“The catching the ball on the dead-ball line says to me he’s not thinking about his footy,” NSW coach Brad Fittler said on The Sunday Footy Show.

“He’s a smart player. He made it to the top through his wits and his smarts and obviously his speed.”

Eels great Peter Sterling added: “He doesn’t make those mistakes. And there wasn’t even a decision to be made there.”

Former NSW hooker Michael Ennis questioned Boyd’s desire to play.

“I just question whether Darius wants to play anymore,” he said on Fox League.

“It’s hard to watch ... It just seems like he’s lost the love of the game.”

Veteran Daily Telegraph reporter Phil Rothfield said Boyd’s future had become a critical issue in Brisbane, claiming that the Broncos skipper would have been dropped for this weekend’s game against Cronulla if not for the club’s State of Origin exodus.

“I am told that only that fact there’s Origin on this week — (Corey) Oates is not there, (Joe) Ofahengaue, (Matt) Gillett, David Fifita, (Anthony) Milford’s crook (injured) — I’m told he would’ve been dropped if they were at full strength,” Rothfield told NRL 360.

“That’s how worried they are about his form. He needs a blinder against Cronulla on Saturday night to retain his spot in the side.

“I cannot imagine Darius Boyd with his background at the club, on $800,000 a year, playing Queensland Cup; but I’m told there will be a tough conversation had.”

Boyd’s former Kangaroos and Maroons teammate Billy Slater said that the battling great was clearly trying to reignite his form.

“The frustrating thing for him is you can see that he’s trying,” Slater said on The Sunday Footy Show.

“Even when he was playing fullback, he was leading the kick-offs. No fullback in the history of the game’s ever done that.

“So he’s trying to spark his team, he’s trying to spark himself into a bit of form. I feel sorry for Darius. He’s copping a fair bit of criticism at the moment. But he’s trying to find that form.”

Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold won’t have the option of leaving Milford at fullback, after the $1 million per season star was on Monday ruled out indefinitely with a knee injury. It remains to be seen where Boyd will play on Sunday at Cronulla.

Slater said that the Milford experiment was a long way from being a genuine success, anyway.

“They are searching for answers, they’re searching for spark,” Slater said.

“And the positional switch … on the surface, it was a great mentality for Anthony Milford to run the football. I thought he was the most dangerous player in a Broncos jersey.

“But beneath the surface, he got a few numbers wrong [and] the Knights took advantage of it down the short side and made a line break; they could have scored a try, it got brought back for obstruction. Then they went down another short side and scored a try; it was a four on two.

“You can certainly learn that, but I don’t know about mid-season. It’s going to be hard to get all those things right.

“Anthony Milford’s getting the ball in these [attacking] situations and you think it’s a success, but you don’t see the underlying factors.

“And Darius Boyd … I guess everyone did see Darius Boyd in the defensive line coming up against Jesse Ramien. Those sort of things, you’ve got to weigh it up.

“So although it did look like Anthony Milford was running the football more, and that’s a great thing for the Broncos, there are a lot of other issues there.”

Broncos legend and club director Darren Lockyer said that Boyd was just one symptom of a disappointing season thus far under new coach Seibold.

“There’s been some really good performances from Darius. You can see that he’s trying to lift his team; he leads the kick-offs down, he leads the kick chase. He’s trying to lift his team by putting his body on the line,” Lockyer told Wide World of Sports.

“But I think with the team that’s around him at the moment, when individually they’re not doing what they need to do, everyone starts to look a bit average. There’s been games where not just Darius but the rest of them have looked pretty poor.

“I’m obviously pretty disappointed with how they’ve played this year. They’ve underachieved. But I guess the next four or five weeks is pretty critical to how far they go in 2019.

“If you look at the team on paper, it should be playing finals football.”

The Broncos are running 14th in the NRL, with a dismal 5-9 record. They must win seven of their last 10 games to have a hope of playing finals.

At the start of May, rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns said that Seibold needed to tell Boyd that his career was on borrowed time.

"I think the coach just has to read the riot act to him and say, ‘You’ve got a month. If you don’t perform in that month then [out]; I’m going to put some young blood in there’," Johns told Wide World of Sports.

Two months on, Boyd's career is still on the brink.

then we can get Wayne Bennett back again

It would be a longshot but I would never say never.
He wouldn’t consider coming back while white is there but by the time his current contract with Souths is up white and siebold could both be gone so who knows?

I think Locky needs a wake up call. He is obviously dreaming. What game has Boyd looked good in this year apart from that mild improvement across those four wins before the bye. Oh and how on paper does the least experienced team in the comp look like a finals team on paper. Its was total crap at the start of the year and now its complete fantasy talk.

This is part of the problem. People on the board thinking we are better then we are. Is Locky putting his 2 cents in where it doesn't belong.

if he was able to finish it he would have done so already.
