I’m in that western corridor (t’ba) and sadly, it is true that AFL is engaging with the grade 1 and up kids at every school. My almost 7y/o is under pressure from his mates to join an Aus Kick team. I was okay with it ‘till I realised it was afl. Not a single word about RL or touch footy. He wouldn’t know it existed if I didn’t watch it on telly.

Pretty pathetic IMO from the ARL/NRL.

I don't like AFL, but i'd much rather my child play AFL / Soccer over Rugby League. Its just so brutal in comparison. The societal value of being "physically tough" is falling as we realize there are long term prices to be paid for it.

AFL has nothing in western Sydney. For all the hype in the media down there and the BS they spread about them being Australia-wide 99% of people in western Sydney (that 1% are ex Victorians, bigger population then perth or Adelaide btw)couldn't name 2 current players, especially from the giants.

A lot of people ask me why I hate AFL, but living in western Sydney when the giants came in is the reason why. The AFLs arrogance was ASTOUNDING. Its as if they thought we simply hadn't seen the light, we didn't know what we liked, it was only a matter of time before we saw what we were missing in our lives. It wasn't just the AFL organisation, it was their fans, it was their media. We were/are idiots for not seeing how good it is. If it's so fucking good how come OVER HALF the Australian population has a different sport as it's number 1 (that's right, despite what the media make out, NSW, QLD AND ACT make up the MAJORITY of the population and most don't give a **** about AFL) and it's only played in 1 fucking country. Why? Bcos it IS shit. That's why.

Rant over. It may be in their schools but its as likely Ipswich people will follow as islanders were when they signed folau and hunt and suddenly sung from their perch that 150kg islanders were gonna fall in love with chasing a ball around like a flock of seagulls with a chip on the beach.

Broncos decided everything past Toowong could get stuffed at the end of 2018. It was Bennett’s last decision.

QRL, Jets and Easts cater for the whole area. Easts do a lot in the area and have a deal with Swifts.

Newcastle have a deal with the Jets and Roosters do a lot of stuff with ISHS and IGS too. Politis is from Ipswich and likes Ipswich boys coming to the Roosters.

The Jets have a development officer working with schools and clubs and the NRL have a DO too.

Ali just started her girls academy in the last two weeks too. She helps at ISHS too.

Further out but Toowoomba getting close to applying for an ISC team in 23. Money is in order now.

Plenty of league in the area.

It shouldn’t be argument about who does more or longer. It’s self serving to be affiliated with an area- you can get the players first.

When you have a positive relationship with teachers, schools and clubs they want to tell you about players.

i was told recently that easts tigers bought / owned swifts now. was talk of them name changing swifts name to that of tigers. could of understood wrong though.

yea name change thing sounds odd but was told the merger/ownership was recently as it was part of the firebirds pitch to the nrl to show they were increasing there revenue and or footprint in the west corridor or something along those lines.

No matter your views on the matter, the reality remains that all of the Lions, Swans, Giants and Suns have developed players good enough for first grade and even being absolute stars of the AFL. The Storm have developed...Richie Kennar?
