The Broncos have two new players in their crosshairs: PNG Test star David Mead and former Titans, Sharks and Hull play-maker Albert Kelly. Kelly has already joined the squad for the first day of training, with Mead almost certain to follow. On his first day as coach, Kevin Walters said:

Albert's on a train and trial contract. He’s another experienced player and a good one to have around these younger guys. He’s had great success here in Australia and over in England. We welcome him back with open arms. He’s a different style of player but he’s a very exciting player as well. It will be good to have him around for the next four weeks and then after Christmas as well.”

“We’re open to some discussions with Dave. He played on Saturday night in the Super League preliminary final. He’s one we’re looking to get back and strengthen up our outside backs. He’s another one with great experience. A lot of our recruiting at the moment is about character and he’s very strong in that area as well.”

Plus this:

“I just saw Joe Ofenhague in a Broncos kit so at this stage he’s playing here next year, as far as I know. It’s good to have him back.”

Albert Kelly I always held in high regard, skill-wise was off the charts, but had off-field issues I believe. The pics I saw of him recently weren't flattering either. Can a player lose 15kg in an off-season and not die?

If he can get to full fitness he might be a good buy.

Well Milford is still alive so I guess so

Not to keep beating the same dead horse (make your own jokes there) but either of these signings are decent in a vacuum. What really concerns me is we’ve already lost Bird, Fifita, and, even though he was a squid, our only specialist fullback There are rumours going the we are shopping around our 2 most senior props.

Sure some of them you’d be glad to see the back of (offa, Boyd), and maybe Bird and even Lodge would be for the best but when it’s all one way traffic it’s the same issue as under Seibold.

Yes I wanted Moose gone, and yes one of Milf or Kniko needed to go, and yeah Macca is mud but dropping them and replacing them only with ageing journey men and fringe players is a backwards step.

If we lose Lodge, Bird, Offa, and Fifita this off-season and we only replace them with Mead, Albert, and Asiata we are even more fucked than we already were.

on top of that, giving 1.3m to Flegler, the club is in for a world of trouble.

Hi guys, Hull FC fan here in peace! I just wanted to say a few words on Albert Kelly. For me, he is the best 6 I have seen in our shirt. His ability to break the line, find a pass and do the unexpected made him a fantastic player to watch. His defence as well (which you don't see on highlights reels) is phenomenal - he hits hard! You may have seen images of him and a comment above mentions he has to lose weight, and it's true he does. He seems to have that body type that the off season doesn't like, but he can lose it really quickly. He did have some injury concerns over here, and he missed around 4 months of the season in 2019 with a concussion injury, but if you can get him fit, he would be a fantastic asset to the Broncos and the young kids you have there.

Here is a highlights reel of his time in the UK at both Hull KR and Hull FC -

Thanks for the post mate, that is good feedback.

For some reason I read that in a British accent. Thanks for the run down mate. I just hope he stays off the drink, he can be a bit of a loose unit I believe

I thought Kelly left the NRL because his body couldn’t handle it? Could be getting him confused tho.

Whilst he definitely is overweight currently I think he would be a good utility option where he can play in the spine, back line and even lock because of his size... he can break tackles and probably wouldn’t be the worst hit up taker because of his size, he also has plenty of speed and ball playing ability... just an opinion I feel that if we obviously aren’t dropping Milford, a player of that sort of talent would be better and more effective than a hooker on the bench

Fullback maybe
Assuming your talking about Kelly... I thought about that but he would really need to be a lot fitter and prove he is good under the high ball before that... although defensively that could be a positive if what that hull fan was saying about his defence was right, I’m sure he would have a high level of defensive iq

For me I went Russell Brand
From the same City as Josh Hodgson, so sound more like him than any of the other suggestions made on here!

I always thought Kelly would make a good full back - and he did play some games there, but always played better as a 6. I look forward to hearing how he goes with you guys.

Here are some highlights of our pre season game against St George from 2018 - when Kelly played quite well despite us having a young side playing on the day:
