Bulldogs boss Todd Greenberg has been appointed deputy chief executive of the National Rugby League.

NRL CEO Dave Smith will reveal the appointment at a media conference today. It is seen as a move to reinvigorate the code's management.

Greenberg has been secretly negotiating a deal with the NRL for several weeks and informed the Bulldogs of his decision only late yesterday.

At least Greenburg will do something, not like Dave Smith who has done FA.

How the **** is that not a massive conflict of interest?

If he doesn't step down from the Dogs, it is absolute BS.

Yes, Greenberg has resigned from the dogs.

I think Smith is unfairly criticised. but then so was Whittaker, Moffett and Gallop before him.

I don't like him, I think he hides pure evil behind that smile, just like Tom Waterhouse.

I agree.

He seems to have 'cleaned' up the Dogs, but IMO he has swept somethings under the carpet. (eg: Mad Monday)

Yeah. There's cleaning up, and there's hiding it. I think Greenberg has been a master at tightening up the leaks within the club. Afterall, it was leaks that caused info about the salary cap scandal to break. Leaks that got information about Coffs Harbour out in the media that heightened the drama.

I don't think Greenberg is the great administrator he's made out to be.

FA? He has been 10 weeks in the job and in his first week was confronted with an ASADA investigation which is a legal and government minefield.

Who do you think is initiating this management overhaul? It has been coming for months, Gallop let the NRL admin pile up with a lot of dead wood that has been left to Smith to get rid of.

Grant and Smith are the best thing to happen to the game for a long time, News Lts. are only upset because their tele journos are no longer fed leaks to give them exclusives every week and are now forced to go out and actually find some stories. I hate the way rugby league fans are soo easily manipulated into believing the agenda filled rubbish that is reported by the tele, they no longer have the leaks that gallop fed them for a decade so they are reduced to manufacturing crisis and attacks on the game to provoke reaction by the NRL.

Not sure where people are getting the Smith does nothing vibe from. Like you said, he's dealing with a pretty big investigation.

What else could he have done to show he's doing great thigns for the game? His real test will be when the season is concluded, to see where major reforms need to be made.

Typical league fan reaction, they are intimidated by intelligence, it has always held the game back and the media play on those insecurities with class war rubbish.

Hadley attacked Smith because of the attendance of the City/Country game due to the ticket prices. Said that he should go back to banking. Is that even something Smith decides? Hadley should go back to radio.

The coffs harbour game was decided before Smith was even in the job.

I'm not convinced on Greenberg, the guy gets a dream run in Sydney press, which is probably exactly why he is getting the job at the NRL, he has a relationship with the tele. It could backfire though if the tele start running a campaign to make Greenberg the ceo, which means Smith has to keep him on a tight leash.

Rumours of Smith not seeing out the season ffs. Where do people come up with this shit.

This boys club upper management bullshit in league is the thing that is holding the place back. If he does leave, the game will suffer for it.

The difference between Smith (so far) and Greenberg since he came on the scene: Greenberg kisses the media's arse. They love him.
Smith is "aloof"...that is, he doesn't go out of his way to give them their stories.

That's what it comes down to.

However, David Moffett has given Smith some sage advice. He said once you lose the media it's extremely hard to win them back. So I think one of Smith's priorities has to be to get the media (especially Sydney media) on the same page.

Call me crazy, but I like that we have a CEO that's not in the media every 2nd day like Gallop was (usually responding to a crisis). I'd love it if we never heard from CEOs at any level.
