Carlin Anderson

I honestly can't wait to see how the back line will look next year. Oates is really killing it on the wing and i like Kahu on the wing too... i would love to see copley get a go in the centres with reed and when boyd is on origin duty we could see Anderson slide into the back line. I doubt he'll be a start from round one given how this back line has played this year

Yeah but all u need to do is slide kahu into center and anderson could play wing.

You'd cut Reed! ? After his match winning defence! ? He saved two tries man! ! Seriously. . So blind to the facts

I thought Reed was overrated. He had some dumb moments before the "try savings". And one of the saves was after he let the attacker get on his outside and had to almost dive to stop him.

I think someone picked up on this earlier in the year, his right shoulder is the bad one for him, it has been reconstructed a bunch of times, which could very well be why he lets players get on his outside more often than not, I think he'd rather hit them with his left shoulder than right.

I saw him do this allll year. Allow the Centre to get around him, then cut him down with a cover tackle. I think it's deliberate. He's so good at it that he allows them that initial room, luring a false sense of security then cuts them down.

Also makes you wonder if it's a deliberate ploy to herd the attack away from Milf to help him out a bit.

CARLIN Anderson has already landed a contract with the Broncos but fans are a long way from seeing the best of the Ipswich Jets star.

Anderson will wear the No. 1 jersey when the Jets tackle PNG Hunters at Kougari Oval on Sunday for a spot in the Intrust Super Cup grand final.

Ipswich have been the form team of the finals series, posting 98 points in their two games so far, and are in the box seat to book a berth against Townsville in next Sunday’s decider.

Manly-bound hooker Matt Parcell was the star of last weekend’s win over Easts with his five tries but Anderson could play a starring role against the Hunters.

The Ipswich Grammar graduate has represented Queensland in league, rugby, football and cricket at junior levels and is regarded as an athletic freak.

But he is a long way from being a finished product, according to Jets co-coach Ben Walker.

“Carlin’s a wonderful talent,” Walker said.

“He does things on the footy field very few people can do.

“There are little things that aren’t obvious to people watching that I pick up that only the very elite are able to do.

“He knows what he has to do and he’s best is better than most. He’s pretty valuable to the team.
“We know he’s going to improve. He’s only 19 and getting better every week.”

The Hunters will arrive in Brisbane on Saturday after being forced to travel for what should have been a home final.

Playing the game in Port Moresby was a logistical nightmare which would have cost $200,000 so the Hunters have had to travel south for the encounter.

Just how taxing the travel, and last weekend’s loss to the Blackhawks, will be on the Hunters remains to be seen but Walker is confident the Jets are in a good space.

“It’s not time to be changing things or doing anything drastically different,” he said.

Parcell's five-try performance
Parcell's five-try performance

“We’re a real contender now.

“It’s five years in a row we have made the semis but this is as well as we have played.

“The team we’ve had for five years has grown into the team it is now.

“I know we’re ready. It’s just a matter of getting the job done on the day.”

Intrust Super Cup preliminary final: Hunters v Jets at Kougari Oval, tomorrow, 3pm. TV: Channel 9 live (Queensland).

Is this game on for us southerners in sydney?

Anyone watching? Wow he showed a clean pair of heels just then! Pace!!

Yep. Another plus is he kicks goals. He needs to be playing first grade next season, even if it's just enough to keep him around for the following seasons. On that note, what's Marmin's situation? Still on our books? Could do a lot worse than keeping/getting him back on board

After watching him the last few weeks, I'm gonna be annoyed if he's not starting on the wing next season, he's pure x-factor, and he can kick goals at 75%+, which is only going to improve over the next few seasons.

1. Boyd
2. Maranta / Oates
3. Reed / Copley
4. Kahu
5. Anderson

For me, it comes down to his pre-season form. Wing is all about confidence, and Carlin certainly exudes plenty of confidence, but I'll be interested to see how he handles the transition, not only from fullback to wing but QRL footy to NRL footy. I think it will be only a matter of time, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves and start a petition or anything of that nature.

i went to the game today and caught a glimpse of anderson first hand, no doubt he is fast and can kick goals but his decision making is still well short of nrl. he is a good q cup player but the difference between cup and nrl is massive.

Fullback to wing isn't going to be an issue; 18 games last year and 4 this year on the wing of his 43 ISC games. He only moved to fullback when Conlon was hurt after round 4.

I know he's got experience there, but the plays that impress me are those that are commonly associated with the fullback position.

He won't have those opportunities out wide.
