I'm a little disappointed in Black.

He is only 19, and Pezet 22. I guess he feels his pathway blocked, which i never saw Pezet as doing. If anything, I thought it took all the pressure off Black in developing his game.

Is Black dominating the competition with the Magpies? Is his game demanding selection into the NRL? I mean, there is 3 crucial years between him and Pezet in development. I'm disappointed that he didnt back his ability, and grit, to win the jersey.

With the roster we are developing, every player should feel under pressure. That's a successful club.

Didn’t we sign Duffy as well who’s also a halfback? Maybe black just felt like he’s spinning his wheels now and doesn’t have a clear path to first grade. All the best to him.

Pezet is going to join the Broncos with close to 50 NRL games, Hunt and Reynolds off contract in 2026, Mam signed up until 2029 and this time next year Black might still be on 0 NRL games and Duffy might even have played for the Broncos and had good games and be looking to re-sign.

Black hasn't even played a full season of Cup yet and certainly isn't demanding being picked- far from it but he's probably where Pezet was in 22 played Cup but looking ahead sees Hughes. Pezet re-signed with the Storm at the end of 22 until end of 25. So does Black sign again and see what happens when Hunt and Reynolds go or seek opportunity elsewhere now. If he sees how 2026 goes his value could go down or up for 2027. It only takes Reynolds and Hunt injured, Duffy taking a while to settle in and Black could be playing NRL if his Cup form is ok. He is 20 in May so the next contract is where you would want to be playing some NRL- which is what Pezet has just done.

Black is with Titan Management same as Mozer, so no clash there.

Big decision indeed, didn't think he'd do it in 11 days. I think it's what's best. The writing is on the wall at Brisbane and maybe Ricky can unlock the neglected facets of his game.

The Raiders got duded by Keahn Skipps and Black can fill that void provided he can improve a few things.

I said as much when Pezet signed on . Along with Duffy .

Halves need to be able to threaten the line with their own running .
Black is not doing that enough .
 
According to a mate who has watched a few Souths Logan games, Black has a tremendous boot but is a bit lacking in pretty much every thing else.
Cant seem to unlock players around him with his passing, bit of a turnstile in defense and he reckons Reynolds could beat him in a sprint.
Weirdly slow for a young kid.

My opinion, Club made the right choice with Pezet, we don't have 3 years for Black to become First Grade ready while Walsh, Mam, Patty and Payne are in their prime right now, plus I'm tired of these "next Darren Lockyer/future immortal" kids we keep developing only for them to disappear.
cough Ashley Taylor/Tanah Boyd/Tesi Niu.
 
Meh whatever, the club has made a call, they haven't gone for some nuff nuff alternative, Pezet has a solid as **** foundation going on, so onward and upward.

I wish Black all the best. Probably will get some first grade in with Canberra in '27.
 
IMO Coby needs to try to get to Canberra for 2026 ... otherwise there is a big risk that he would be in the exact same position at the Raiders as he would find himself here.

The Raiders have a highly regarded rookie, Ethan Sanders who by 2027 will have likely played a full season of first grade

Reynolds - Likely retires
Bhunt - Likely retires (maybe goes around for 1 more year)
Coby - Canberra 2027
Rogers - Off contract... unlikely to get extended (I'd assume)

Billy - Returning July or so, but off contract... will be 33 in Feb 2027
Duffy - 12 month contract

Ezra - signed to 2029
Pezet - signed to 2029

So at the moment we've only got 2 halves signed beyond next year.

They're likely to be the two long term starters, but we still need some depth... and we need to make sure there's some competition so they don't become complacent.

We have Braithen Scott in development. He's been described as the next Coby Black.

I like the Raiders, only natural for them to think that when all he does is get gassed up around the place.

I like Coby he has a real good attitude and seems a great kid but like I said long before the Pezet signing, Black’s game is severely lacking beyond his shoe. This isn’t some post losing him narrative to make ourselves feel better. I think Sanders is a better prospect even. If he goes down there without anyone willing to accept he has his pitfalls and needs developing over the next few years then he won’t even get an NRL debut. He is nowhere near NRL quality as it stands.
