[Confirmed] Ben Barba signs with Cronulla

And what entices them to remain if Milford Barba and Hunt were locked in there? With Boyd the potential is there for him to be moved onto the wing down the track when they are actually ready to make the step up. Can you see Milford Barba or hunt out of the spine in that situation?

Of course I can. WB obviously doesn't rate Barba. Plenty of scope for Barba to be moved. Much more than WB actually moving Boyd.

Of course the truth is Kennedy leaving was enough on its own to allow Boyd to sign. To claim losing juniors is or will be a result of signing Boyd is just plain crazy. Add Hala's salary in and that covers Boyd. Nothing to do with junior development not to mention how much we saved on Hoffman. The only one of our recent departures I'm less pleased about is Hannant,I'd like him to have stayed but I hear the Cows offer and a few others were around for quite some time.

I hope Barba kills it in Cronulla and even if he could have done it up here he had his chance. If he ran on the field he indicated he was fit,no one forced him to play and on that basis he had his opportunity.

I don't get it? WB has come in and told Barba he's not in his top 17 and essentially doesn't rate him, yet you are claiming that if Barba stayed WB wouldn't have dropped him.

Danoz - I agree Barba is a fullback. In my scenario he is a bridge to Taylor at half and Hunt at five-eight. All moot now of course.

Yes that's what he has said, I was looking at all the potential scenario's(and since the discussion involves Boyd vs Barba in the spine which is what I was discussing mate)not just what has happened, just because Barba remain's doesn't mean they are any better off then if they had Boyd, especially if either of them cement their position, that would pretty much throw your Barba being a bridge for them to cross out the window because I can't see Barba being moved if his playing that well there I can however see Boyd being moved if Bennett felt there was room for someone like Taylor in the side down the track.

Look I think you may have misunderstood me, I know Bennett basically made it clear Barba wasn't going to be in the spine, I was merely looking at the scenarios that could have existed if he had of been, hell you countered one of mine with your own so I don't see the big fuss is mate. Your entitled to your opinion mate and I respect that.

Disappointed to lose Ben as he was turning the corner and putting in good performances but his fate was sealed when Bennett stated Boyd would be fullback. Hopefully Ben can use his talent at Cronulla and can continue his career fruitfully and enjoy playing constant first grade which he had no chance of here next year. Would hate to see Barba turn into another wasted talent.

Barba won't kill it ......tipping in a year or two he'll fade away into obscurity. I don't think he's really that talented....opportunistic yes, and when he had speed....that was a dangerous combination.

Once you lose your speed...I don't think you ever really get it back.

Good move in releasing him.

sad to see barba go, all the best to him. but i'm more excited about the arrival of milford, he's just been quietly going about his business not attracting much attention, i think milford will have a 2012 ben barba like season :takdir:

Despit being disappointed to see Barba move on I have lost no respect for Wayne Bennett who has been honest from the get go and at the end of the he decided his future was elsewhere and I wish him luck at the Sharks. For all the claims of it coming back to bites us there are just as many to make that the grass isn't always greener on the other side, there's always room for a player of his talent, just ask Berrigan and Hancock.

As for the claims of Boyd's signature coming back to stop us retaining a promising youngster, they are no worse off then if Barba had remained and if both were at the club that would be the worse case scenario for their chances.
That would only be valid if Bennett could be objective about Boyd. I believe Barba would be moved on if he wasn't performing and/or a youngster was breaking the door down.
I firmly believe Boyd has a mortgage on the position and won't be moved no matter how he or anyone else performs.

The only way Boyd ever moves to the wing is if Bennett retires!!!!!!!

$800k a season for three years, at least we won't be covering any shortfall.

According to the mole, Cronulla are paying Barba 800000 per year and we still have to fork out for his contract. No wonder Bennett got rid of him. How much did Gee give him?

They matched the $400k of the last year left to run on his Dogs contract, I never realised it doubled after the first year. If I'd known that all season I probably would have had a different opinion when watching Barba during the season!

I thought people were aware his contract with us was heavily back-ended.

Yes, I thought that as well. We took over Barba's last 2 years of contract at his Bulldogs wage (reportedly $350K) until and including 2015...?
