Copley signs with Sydney

He has done the best thing for his career.

He has gone to a strong club, with a quality coach. I predict that he'll play origin in 2-3 years.

I also predict that we'll regret losing him... He may even prove that as early as thus season.

I predict none of this happens... I also predict we hear crickets if that occurs.

True.

Nobody has put their up and admitted they were wrong about Gerard Beale even though he is a permanent fixture in the Kiwis team.

Sad to see my main man Dale go.

Always liked the fella. He was brilliant in 2014, and showed he's definitely a very capable NRL centre. Such a shame injury struck when it did, otherwise he might have already established his position in the side.

Wish him all the best. By all accounts he's a lovely bloke and quite smart... probably won't fit in well with the Roosters haha.

I am upset that he's leaving, and shitty that he's going to the Roosters. Fucking ropable that we're likely paying part of a Rooster's players contract.

I guess I just have to put on my big boy pants, and accept that no one would take him unless we chipped in (the alternative being that we'd be over the cap). If there was interest from other clubs, and they were willing to pay his full contract, it will be proven to be a very noble gesture if the Broncos chipped in financially in order to place him in a successful club.

And all said and done, Roberts > Copley.

He may be a good guy but the fact is he never cemented himself or owned any position. Yes he had a good 2014, but it was not as beautiful a year as some look back on with rose glasses. He was still a slot in, winger or centre. Scored some tries outside of hodge then took over for hodge, and was not even close to filling the hodges shoes. For me he is in the same class as Hoffman, a good player but nothing great. Not worth losing sleep over. I wish him luck though and thanks for wearing the Broncos jersey honourably and with pride for six years Copley

Pretty much agree with all of this. A good bloke, a good club man but at the end of the day, it's all about the last sentence and football is a business these days.

He'll be in England in 2 to 3 years time.

Another tale of a kid with potential who never really made it.

Got injured at the wrong time and never really cemented a spot.

thats a pretty ordinary assessment, i would beg to differ and say that he has made it. he has played first grade and to back that up he has played over 50 games.
as far as a tale of another kid who never really made it you are so far off the mark its quite laughable.
2014 he was our leading try scorer and was selected in the kangaroos train on squad. not to bad for a kid who kever really made it hey!!!!!

I tend to agree. I think he will be a star at the Roosters!

Copley montage to be uploaded soon!

How did we afford to have him on that much?

It's contracts like that that show why outside of our rep players we have had to have a squad of 'solid yet unspectacular' first graders, and why Bennett has had to do so much maneuvering in the off-seasons to get our squad right.

The more that comes out about the Griffin years the more apparent it is that we were one of those clubs that had to pay overs for solid first graders... Something the Broncos should never had been.

I was amused when I heard that figure and didn't believe it at all. But let's look at the circumstances of when he re-signed. He'd slaughtered it in the 9's, looking like a frikken machine, with his size and footwork. After being stuck on the wing he was finally showing us what he was capable of in the centres. To add to that, it was really only his first proper opportunity in the centres in the NRL, who knew where his ceiling would be? And with Hodges' retirement coming soon, I don't recall anyone here not expressing that re-signing Copley was a major priority.
