Honest opinion, how do you think his been travelling? I must say I've been pretty impressed by his efforts, making great metres, shown he can be dangerous attacking the line, goes looking for the ball to help the forwards and can score tries, though he got caught in that intercept I thought he showed good pace for a player of his size. Defensively his been caught out on the wing but I would put that more to inexperience there and despite that I think his done a pretty good job for us there in the absence of other options. Overall the potential is there, where he goes with that is yet to be seen. Definitely a player that we should continue to have in first grade for the rest of the season.

Hard not to be impressed with him. He is massive. Will be much happier when we have him off the bench as a back rower

Yeah, his more suited as a secondrower/centre but out of need his playing on the wing and overall doing a pretty good job for us there, longterm his not really an option there but his definitely got the potential to be in the side for us as a secondrower or even a centre.

It's good to see a quality talent like Oates receive a go. Has looked like a good prospect ever since he made his way into the NYC last year and his step up has been very impressive.

His hands have always been a concern, but if he can continue to develop he could be a future main-stay for us.

He has been a shining light for us and a good find, should get a permanent first grade spot next year.

I'm really excited about him but I just hope Hook remembers that his real future lies in the second row. He can do a decent job filling in out in the backs but that should be a temporary thing to cover for injuries (or as a way of keeping Maranta out of the team). As soon as it is possible, I want him back in the forwards either in the NRL or the Q-cup. Please don't dick around with his development!

Agreed. I said a similar thing a little while ago actually. He's going great for us now, but he isn't a winger and we don't want him picking up bad habits by playing out of position for too long.

He's been impressive, but for the life of me I can't find a spot for him in the squad next year, maybe another season or two of NYC / QCUP

Thaiday ---> scrap heap

or I guess they could try to move him into the props permanently.

Why ....Thaiday is a back rower. His game has gone 180 degrees backward since playing in the front row.

I love the way you think

Thaiday is a front rower who is too soft to play in the middle. He doesn't seem to have any skills you'd expect a second rower to have any more, like passing, offloading, footwork, etc. He literally just takes metre eating runs while running at backs (and doesn't do a particularly good job of it either).

I don't think Thaiday is much chop at either, it is a bit like arguing whether Peter Wallace should be a hooker or halfback when the real choice you want is 'none of the above'.

A couple years ago I would have been 100% cert that Thaiday should stay in the backrow but not these days. He hasn't really done much there since 2011 and even though he hasn't set the world on fire in the front row, I think it suits the team better to have him there (at least next year). At very least it rounds out a prop rotation of Hannant, Mcguire, Hala/Dodds and still leaves us with a great backrow.

Easy to get into QLD rep sides with a future Immortal passing you the ball. In saying that he has played great at times (sans Locky), and playing prop has stuffed his impact and definitely shown up his lack of fitness, but yeah I think we should 'Kurt Gidley' him (or at least co-captain him)

Yeah .....because he's been playing all year up front.

He didn't have many of those skills when he played in the second row either.

When he was playing well in the backrow his game was always pretty simple: crash through the line and trample defenders, plus getting quick play the balls. Whether he plays at prop or not doesn't change the fact that he has never used much footwork or been an excellent offloader. His game was always pretty simple and it doesn't seem to work that well anymore, even when he does get the opportunity.

Just back on Oates, I'd like to see him drop a couple of kilos ( maybe less weight work ) and play some centre. Sort of like the young Gene Miles. Like Miles, move into the forwards in time. A big fast rangy centre would be great although if you all think that's wrong then ,okay into the forwards. It's just that he's so young to be thrown in there.
