Cowboys v Souths spoilers

Wow, someone on this forum with a sense of humour.

Sorry you're going to be banned for an emoticon-only post.
Though I note further up Coxy did the same thing. But he's a protected species around here.

As I have said earlier, my opinion of Hannant is the same. But seeing as in this instance we're talking about Carl Webb, that's who I'm talking about right now.
i realise this, but what started this convo was i said he shouldve been in the origin instead of one of those 2. if someone else is playing better footy and more consistent then sure, have them in instead - but the 2 guys in there instead arent.

But what have Hannant and Thaiday done wrong to deserve getting dropped? Webb in game 1 had to fill the shoes of Steve Price and did an absolute shit house job of it. As I have said, if you're an Origin front rower, you make more than 4 hit-ups in a match. It is obvious that Webb doesn't deserve to be there because of that stat. No willingness to get involved and run at good defenders. It is OK for him at club level when he can pick out the halfbacks and small 5/8ths to run at (making him look better) but when he gets to the big time he simply doesn't rise to the occasion.

I am not saying Hannant and Thaiday have been outstanding in this series by any means, but there is no reason to drop either of them to make way for a fat, useless turd.

Not looking at any statistics, and based solely on who I think is a better player, I would rather have Webb in the team than Hannant. I think Hannant is a great player, but he is too much like Civoniceva and Price in that he just runs the ball up with no variation. I think that Webb would provide that little bit of variation. Obviously he would need to play more than the 33 minutes he played in game one, but with Price and Civoniceva able to play a lot of minutes, he wouldn't get a chance to rack up that stats of some of the other players.

At least Hannant would make more than 4 hit-ups though, regardless of whether there is variation or not.

Yeah, he made 7 runs...4 of which were hit ups. Hannant no doubt would make more than that, but Price and Civoniceva would be doing the majority of that, backed up by the second rowers. I just fail to see the need for 3 of the same style of player.

What happens when Price and Civoniceva come off then?? I would be more confident of Hannant keeping the forward momentum going than Webb. Honestly Webb is shit!!!! Most benches have a back-up front rower (Hannant) on the bench anyway, along with a couple of second rowers (Thaiday and Myles) who can also play up front and a utilty (Slater/Hunt).

I see your point, but that's what I would have Thaiday and Myles on the bench for. Myles would cover for when they are off. He is more of a front rower IMO.

give webb more than 15 minutes to start the match and 15 minutes at the end when we're getting smashed and he wouldve done better. didnt thaiday and hannant only make like 2-3 more hitups than Webb did, but played about 15-20 minutes more than he did in game 1?

tonights game showed more than anything how much of a pussy Thaiday is in comparison to the rest of the elite - and even second string - forwards in the game.

Webb can't last more than 15 mins and remain effective so your bench rotation gets rooted to accomodate 1 unfit, inconsistant player.
Agree about Sam T, though I dont' think he is a pussy. Coxy hit the nail on the head in another thread, he is focusing too much on a quick play the ball and looking for a collision instead of trying to go through the line.
Its something that has to be fixed in any case.

Exactly. I don't think Stu understands what a dominant tackle is. If you land on your front and don't get pushed back it's not a dominant tackle. Thaiday never gets dominated. He NEVER gets pushed on his back.

Nate Myles doesn't either, but he does it by pushing through the line, and that's what Sam needs to learn.

I love Nate Myles, he's the real enforcer of this team, Carl Webb wasn't half the enforcer Myles is, great player with a huge motor, the guy's first hit up is as good as his last.

If only it happened to you.

Wouldn't have mattered Clintos. Those types of tackles don't tend to do much damage to spineless individuals.
